Has to be Fenway or Wrigley
Not sure anything else comes close
It’s hard to argue against these two.

LA Coliseum for me, has hosted two Olympics, pro football and baseball, and one of college football’s blue bloods. Also in an iconic American city
Honorable mentions:
Fenway
Wrigley
Rose Bowl
Lambeau
Indianapolis Motor Speedway (something to say for hosting the world’s biggest attended sporting event, arguably the biggest single auto race in the world, been going on since 1911, basically created and almost destroyed its own racing series, and also it hosts/has hosted NASCAR and the PGA tour FWIW)

As for your point, Rose Bowl yes. Casual and non-sports fans know it from the parade and the Rose Bowl is a highly iconic American event that shares the name with the venue. Hard to overstate that when you're talking about recognition to non-sports folks.
I just think we're overestimating the number of people who pay attention to/can recall events in the Coliseum. The number of very casual and non-sports fans (and non-Californians) who could even name the Coliseum would be surprisingly low, I think. Honestly I think a lot of non-sports people would mistake it for the Rose Bowl, because they know the "Rose Bowl" name much better but would recognize the Coliseum as an LA-area venue.
See I thought it would be the Coliseum with the Olympic history.
But with the Rose Bowl hosting Super Bowls, the Grandaddy of them all in CFB and the World Cup Final in 1994 and 1999...
I think you convinced me.
There's a reason the US picked the Rose Bowl to host the World Cup final in its first ever hosting of the World Cup.
I would say it trumps the Coliseum and Fenway.
It seems the most quintessential American stadium. Like, you wanna see what we're about to the international world, this is what we're about.

It's Madison Square Garden and it's not close
No other facility can compare to hosting historic events/moments covering such a broad range as MSG
NFL
NBA
NCAA
NHL
Boxing
MMA
Wrestling
Concerts
Political Events
The Pope
Dog Shows
etc.

Rose bowl held the summer Olympics. That puts it way up there on its own.

I'm going to ignore your thoughts that basketball arenas are not eligible because Allen Fieldhouse and Cameron Indoor are about as iconic as it gets.
In the South, I would argue Neyland Stadium is at the top of iconic sports venues. Neyland had 100k in the 90's long before the rest of the SEC thought facilities were all that important. Kids from California would commit to Tennessee just to get to play in Neyland.

I don’t know why you excluded basketball... Madison Square Garden might top the list...
The Garden would be on there for boxing alone, then you add in basketball and hockey...

The question basically has to exclude MSG because it’s far and away the most famous sports venue in the country.

I forgot to mention this earlier, but the Rose Bowl has a good shot at hosting the WC final again in 2026. It'll be there or the new Stadium in LA. Coliseum wasn't even on the list.

Not sure about iconic but tons of college basketball history.

But the place was a dump for the fans.
Lots of historic games but I don't think 100k seating is reason enough for elite status.

I thought they expect the final will be in MetLife

And as much as I hate to say it, I think LSU’s Tiger Stadium is the most iconic college football-only stadium.

Eh they’d have NYC right over the river.
No one would actually stay near MetLife
I’d rather MetLife easier for me to go
