There are multiple scenarios where this can happen

But this has been said many times...it isn’t in Payton, Ireland or Loomis’ DNA recently to do that. If anything, they trade up in the first for someone they highly covet or they trade up in the second

Yeah, then after the draft Sean will say “well, we certainly explored the opportunities to trade back, but we couldn’t get a deal done.”

Feels a little different this year. We need help at LB, CB, OL, WR, QB

An extra pick seems prudent

We only need help at WR and LB. the rest are luxuries I’m sure the team would like to have. I could see CB but shite Jenkins looked good, not that I wouldn’t take Henderson or Gladney in a heart beat but still, WR and LB are the only prudent ones. And they might not even take a LB. they might find value in other positions and just maneuver some contracts around like they always do to sign a FA LB.

If we are able to address all of those except QB, then we would have killed the draft. But what are the chances of that? It’s best just to hope we make at least two good picks this year like we did last year with McCoy and CGJ. It’s better to hope for that than to hope we have another stellar 2017.

I’m not big on dropping 17 spots just to pick up a 3rd.

Exactly. Value can fit but there has to be some kind of reasoning behind a move.

Pickup is a 2 for the 1

But

Here we go

Did we swap a 1 for a 2 and add a 3.

I prefer not to do this. I think we will have a nice player available at 24 that won’ be there in the 2nd round.

And you lose an extra year of control of a player trading out of the 1st.

The going rate is a 2nd this year and a 1st next year. See: Mark Ingram trade.

There will plenty of talent at 24. I agree we need a trade up to 2nd round.

This would be an incredible draft and it’s why we should trade back if we can with the Browns. Draft is deep.

If you jump back around 18 spots and only get a 3rd rounder then you have failed at your job.

This would be a pretty good draft but any draft that includes A.J. Terell is not incredible. You used a 1st round pick on one of the most bust worthy players in the draft.

I’m not a big Aj Terrell fan either. I also like other receivers in the 3rd round than Hamler. However I wouldn’t completely hate it if some of those other guys were gone. I’m high on the Van Jefferson hype train. Jordyn Brooks, Zack Moss, and Colby Parkinson are all solid. Brooks fits a need. I think Moss will be a really good running back and Parkinson is a matchup nightmare in Payton’s scheme. Took a shot on a few offensive lineman late is worth a shot in hopes of hitting a gem.
