I think you would be good living in the bigger cities. Ho Chi Minh city was pretty awesome when I went about 6-7 years ago. It’s not for everybody, but I could definitely see a single older guy that maybe went thru a divorce and lost a lot of his retirement going there to live it up.

With all these, and coupled with un-sanitary living conditions, lack of suitable basic infrastructure, and poor healthcare overall, why would anyone at a vulnerable lifestage (elderly, retirement aged individuals) consider SOUTHEAST ASIA?

It's like a melting pot of microbial death. It is literally Mother-Nature's biochemical terror weapons laboratory.

Thailand has pretty good healthcare. Not too far form the US in world rankings and Singapore is in the top 10.

Further, I would present you with this. You are going to die anyway.

If some 60-70 year old dude would rather get some herp knee deep in the local talent, well, so the hell what.

As many have said, I can visit So Cal and prob catch the same shite and be put behind illegals for care.

It's better now. Hanoi is quite temperate. Atmospheric restaurants at ~ $8/entree. ??? cost of housing for foreigners.

Also dumb, seeing how DJT isn't a warmonger. So the bone spurs trope doesn't even make sense.

My wife and I have lived in both Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur and could easily move “part time” to the region when we retire... I say part time because things in Asia can drive you crazy so we’ve discussed downsizing our house here once the kids go to college and getting a townhouse in a big city in the US as a base but then spend 6 months a year in a rented place in select cities in Vietnam, the Philippines or Thailand (as well as some places in Europe as I also have an EU passport).

Malaysia is ok in KL but the rest of the country sucks in terms of medical and general living conditions. For $3500 a few years ago, you could get the cartilage in your knee regrown using your own stem-cells that is only being done in the US now... there are some fantastic doctors in BKK and Sillypore as well, Jakarta is still fantastic except the traffic and the fact you are toast if the locals decide Christians must die...

We survived the 5 years of living out there without any of us catching any of the nasty bugs that are common in the tropics because we were very cautious about what we did outside... Lots of bug spray, coils, screens and netting. We joked that we kept our A/c at 17C and blowing full blast to create a positive air pressure whenever the door was opened so mosquitos couldn’t get in... our idiot friends who would open all the doors when having a party or slept with the windows open shocking all came down with denge or yellow fever more than once...

If you have enough saved to plan ahead and to book tickets enough in advance and make long term rentals can live in cool locations in top notch housing and still fly home when you’ve had enough of the craziness of living in Asia...

Having just gotten back from a week in Costa Rica earlier thisFall, I’d rather be a $500 round trip ticket away from ATL or DFW than half a world away in SE Asia.

Cost of living, food, ease of travel and females are

I've had good times in Latin America and SE Asia, but I have to watch my neck and take more precautions in Latin America.

Why not chill in danang with the beach and mountains? It’s booming there and it makes Baton Rouge living depressing.

World rankings measure healthcare "equity" more than quality.

My wife is Chinese but was born and raised in Indonesia. She's been in the states for 16 years (we just got married a month ago) now but kept her house in Indo. She wanted to sell it but I told her to hold onto it because we may retire there. It's a nice place in a prominent are and she has a maid that has lived there taking care of it for the past 16 years. We are visiting it soon to decide if it is a possibility.

I can live like a king in a beautiful country for next to nothing.

Sounds great. But what happens when they’re chopping your head off and someone is filming it with an iPhone 4?

True. But as someone who’s been to Vietnam multiple times, it’s funny to read some these posts from people who’s never been there, giving their expertise.

I went in 2016 and it’s a great place to live especially if you don’t want to live in a place where there’s a McDonalds and Starbucks on every corner. It’s one of the last truly authentic places.

Dawg. I tell you this as a stranger: don’t do it.

If the wind blows south, you’re likely headed for a stoning as a Christian. It really doesn’t matter if you are not. West and white makes you a prime jihadist target.

I rather be a beet farmer south of Riyadh than ever go there.

Yea I’ll be retiring in the Philipines but no way I’m living in Mindanao. I’ve been to Gen Santos and Davos.

Baguio is my destination - mile high, great climate and in Luzon

Dude. Go to the central portion of the country. Hard pass bro. At one point in our trip if something happened, I realized I was likely going to be dead because there were no healthcare resources. They had chickens running in and out of their houses.

I will never go back. Regardless of how tempting the beaches are. And they’re supposed to be the most stable and advanced LA country.
