Mayor doesn’t allow apartments in Madison.
Ridgeland. No!

If looking for apartments, Flowood or Brandon.

Until you're married, this is truly the only answer. They've got the best bar scene/entertainment district in the city (isn't saying much, but it is what it is). There's decent food, enough going on to stay busy on weekends, and is relatively central. You're within a half-mile of I-55. A commute to Pearl/Brandon is quite plainly no problem. 15-20 minutes tops.

Jackson is improving, but it's still one of those places that is exponentially better to raise a family/be married than it is for young singles. The Madison area is as nice of a burb/golf course community as you'll get in the south, if you're interested in that super-white, conservative experience. Cost of livng is out of this world cheap.

Mississippi has some of the best people you'll come across. However, it is my sincere hope your hobbies don't venture far from watching SEC sports, hunting, golfing, or drinking. If that's your entire palate, my friend you are good to go. If you're interested in something more diverse... turn the job down.

Best of luck in your search!

Kafka is correct regarding car burglaries in Jackson.

There are a lot of them. Of course, you are in a city with a high crime rate. I have many friends that live or lived in Jackson. I myself lived in Jackson. I was fortunate but many, I would say most, of my friends had their cars broken into in the city.

I went to Millsaps. Went away to law school then returned to Jackson for my first job. I was on a budget, needed a place fast, and wanted to be close to my work...downtown.

I rented an apartment in a semi hood right off High Street. It was a five minute car ride to work. $440 a month. This was 2004-2008. I was the only white person in the whole complex, a salt grain in a pepper shaker. Everyone was nice and pleasant...got a lot of “have a blessed day.”

Now, there were noisy neighbors from time to time...lots of late night arguments, bass, etc. The cops showed up a few times in the middle of the night. I remember one cop saying outside my window “Y’all be quiet! We got people tryin to sleep round here!”

Good times.

Fondren and bell haven are nice enough. But a few blocks in almost any direction are horrible. Crime. Break ins etc. would not advise any one of any age to live in these areas. Visit and have dinner/drinks and go home

My son got accepted for a job working for the state department in Pearl, MS. Looking for recommendations for housing/apartments in the area. He is under 25. What does the O-T have in mind?

Like the US Department of State?

Is America finally opening an embassy or consulate in Mississippi?

Apartments in Lakeland/Flowood are worth a look at.

Don’t look in Jackson or Ridgeland.

Madison doesn’t have apartments.
