Plumlee said before the game that LSU had nobody on their defense that can catch him and he was right. And we did put a spy on him but our spy got blocked on every TD run that Plumlee made. The wonderful news is that we have 3 more years to figure out how to stop him so sooner or later they will chase him down..... Look! He's still running....

The issue wasn't spying him. It was gap integrity.

On one play specifically, LB and Safety both over ran the play and left the middle wide open. Once you get burned, and everyone is pissed, trying to "fix it", you get guys running themselves out of position trying to chase the ball out of anger. It takes discipline, calm, and patience to play good defense. Coaching makes that happen, but defense can lose their bubble and get overwhelmed suddenly before getting it back together.

This is excellent.

And for the record, I have not seen a guy as fast as Plumlee in many a year, especially at quarterback. We have certainly seen fast ones, but this guy really struck me as I watched him get increasing separation against some talented defensive backs. Wow, like a scalded dawg.

dude, the defense played so undisciplined, it was a complete joke. #18 didn't play his gaps all night; linebackers didn't play their gaps.

plumlee is very fast, but it was the lack of discipline that cost LSU.

it's mind boggling to me that LSU has a week to prepare and showed up with little interest in keeping their assignments.

Because he was getting bored and wanted to read about how much the fans on the Rant thought the defense sucked.

Plumlee rushed 13 for 38 vs A&M, 17 for 92 vs Auburn and 21 for 212 vs us. Call it gimmick or whatever you want. Whatever a qbs strength is, they tend to be successful at it this season against our d. It’s an issue. I’m sure as heck enjoying this ride but anyone can see it could cost us at some point post season. It is what it is at this point. Just gotta keep scoring points and hope the d can get a little healthier and make some plays.

Oh my. Spy, blitz, spy, blitz, rinse repeat. I am certain we tried to spy Plumlee. But when you lose containment on the fastest guy on the field we dont have anyone capable of spying on him...unless Donte Jackson came back thru the tunnel.

This is where I am 100%. The lack of awareness and focus is pretty concerning.

Quit worrying about that damn game. We are not playing Ole Miss or Plumlee again for the remainder of the damn season and we also won that damn game by 21 points.

Aranda couldn’t see because he was on the sidelines. Aranda was the spy. The qb never made it to the sideline for him to tackle him. He kept going vertical. I saw Aranda adjusting himself on the sideline but not the defense

Look at the second touchdown by Plumlee, Look how far out of position Chaisson is, no containment. After he gets caught inside, no way Logan is going to make that play. Similar situation on almost every score.

Everyone pointing to Aranda needs to watch the game again, poor execution and poor tackling on defense.

Everyone stays home and does their job, different outcome. No reason to chase down from the backside, we had three defenders on the left with one blocker.

Curious to know. What's plumlee's 40? Did he run track in HS?

I don't know, but he easily left behind LSU's fastest players behind. I'd say he is easily in the low 4.3 or high 4.2 range.

Aranda better have a better plan in place when we meet the vaunted Plumblee of the Ole Miss Rebels in the playoffs.

He’s on their baseball team so it’s unlikely he ran track

He did, a large portion of the game anyway.

It rotated. In fact, you'll see at times Chaisson lining up in the middle as a MLB.

That's what you call an undisguised spy to say the least. A spy's primary job is to either cause hesitation or redirection of the one he's spying. The primary goal to either take away a part of the field are direct the one being spied upon to help.

The problem was, the help failed. When Chaisson was in middle (over the heavy side) they'd do those long handoffs or outside runs to the light side (with G or GT pulls). If the spy was outside, they RPO'd to the inside. In both cases the play was supposed to be made by others and they didn't.

And who do we have that's faster than that guy?

Why does the spy have to be faster, or even as fast, as the QB? The spy covers less ground than the QB in order to make the tackle.

I'm not advocating a spy; I think that's a high school technique, but if you're going to use it, it could easily be someone like Delpit or Stevens.

Its not that hard to take away the run. We could've easily stacked 8 in box and dared him to throw. Not sure why we continued to line up in base .

Hell, the spy would only miss the tackle
