Taiwan will be next. Hopefully we don't get pulled into that ordeal.

This isn't a bigger story because people are fighting for freedom against big government and communism.

Which the media in the US wants the opposite to happen.

It's been on the nightly news almost every night the past month.

I hear and read about it every day. Its not a bigger story because even if the protesters somehow prevailed, it will only be for another 28 years when Beijing can legally take over HK in 2047 based on the Joint Declaration the UK and China signed when the UK gave Hong Kong back to the Chinese. The mistake was made by the West back then. Sadly, its just a matter of time now.

It still boggles the mind that they just gave Hong Kong away. 'Here is an economic powerhouse. You have it.'

Yet, they were more than willing to kick the shite out of Argentina over some bird shite encrusted islands.

Because the puppet gov of HK just tried to pass an extradition law that basically undermined all of HK's judicial system and let their citizens be swept away to the mainland at the whim of Beijing.

This has nothing to do with Obama or Trump. Y'all read too much into what's not there. They are supposed to be independent-ish until 2047 but China is trying to exert itself early.

Macau and HK need to go the route that the ROC went. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. Will the US sell military hardware to the HK military?

rise up HK and stay fighting. Once china takes over theres no going back, you freedom will be lost forever. I'd like to visit china/HK one day but damn I dont want to get caught up in some civil war.

IIRC GB signed a 99 year lease with China for Hong Kong. The lease ran out.

They didn't just give it away.

They had a 99 year lease. The lease ran out.

What's the basis of the battle right now? HK is basically losing all of its rights they've had in the past and being completely consumed by Chinese laws right?

The main thing they're fighting is extradition to mainland China.

Hong Kong was released as a territory by Great Britain and became a “Special Administrative Region” of China in 1997. Technically, they’ve never been independent. For all official purposes, Hong Kong is a part of China. However, they have been traditionally allowed more freedom than mainland China.

While I would love to see HK become totally independent, this is a much different situation that if they were already free and China was trying to usurp them.

PS. Neither Obama or Trump had anything to do with any of this.

Now?

Who warned you back then about HK being given up? And who is currently warning that if you continue to elect democrats to office, the same will happen right here, in years, not decades?
