I totally understand the dilemma of being “wrong” about passing on Zion. I promise you though it’s going to be brought up constantly in front office.

Morants are pretty common draft assets

Zions are not

We can get a Morant-level guy most years

It’s not a troll attempt at all. If we draft Zion we are hoping his shot develops. Morant is going to avg close to a triple double in the NBA.

Ja's 3 pt% on 2.8 attempts his freshman year: 30.7%

Zion's 3 pt% on 2.2 attempts his freshman year: 33.8%

don’t you see what happens to guys who can’t shoot in the playoffs? Don’t you watch basketball?
They average 27.4 on 52% from the field with a TS% over 60%?

Truth.

After the lottery I was harkening back to m jordan being picked #3 overall.
#2 overall was great but already injured a lot in college which should have pushed him to lower in round #1. They gambled and lost. #1 overall was a flop.

Zion needs to rework his shot. Not enough height on it. He won't. The big signing check tells him he's ok. His ceiling will be power player with vision until/unless he reworks the shot.

If I'm pelicans I deal Davis to Memphis for #2 overall and bodies.

I've seen Davis be utterly spectacular. Surely memphis has also.

Not sure why you think they would not want him. Hmm?
TIA.

Doesn't matter if Ja is better or not. Draft Zion and there's a 100% chance that you are entertained for as long as he stays. Even if Ja is a perennial all-star and Zion is nothing but a dunker, Ja would give the Pelicans like a .1% higher chance of winning a title. At that point, who cares?

It's Zion.

It's really not that hard to understand. Memphis isn't mortgaging their future for one yr of AD.

#2 is off the table.

Why would a rebuilding team want 1 year of AD while losing young assets to get that 1 year of AD?

There's not a single good reason, not one.

Because there is ZERO chance that Davis would stay in Memphis. None.

Everyone knows this.

100% you don’t pass on Zion. Morant will be Russell Westbrook. Stat stuffer. Is really good but will never ever win you a championship.

Really incredible that this silly thread is 4 pages long. Not only 4 pages long, but people are still going through effort to make an argument for the Pels passing on Zion.

Absolute madness.

Odds are if AD is traded then we will have Zion AND one of Ja Morant or RJ Barrett. I’d love Morant to pair with Holiday and Zion and then go find a wing player but if it would be RJ Barrett then you’d have your answer at small forward that the team has been missing for years. You really can’t go wrong with either player because we have a need for both but Morant is the real deal at point gaurd.

I’d rather be wrong with Zion than be the Jordan/Durant-less Portland Trailblazers

Yet here we are in the WCF & the Pels didnt even make the playoffs (only 1 year after the Pels swept the Blazers)

Also you forgot Olajuwon (Blazers lost the coin flip - could've had Hakeem or Jordan

You don't go with a safe pick if you have a guy that has the potential to be one of the best the game as ever seen.

He is great defensively, blocks shots, makes steals and disrupts the game.

He has power and quickness that very few can match.

He handles the ball well and sees the floor well.

He will average double digits in just layups, dunks and put backs.

And you are worried about his shot, which is above average already?
