My current job brings me through the worst of the hood every day. Not too bad before noon, when the worst of the natives are still asleep and most of the people out an about are decent working folk. it looks like a warzone though. The blight is insane. Burnt out houses, broken windows, abandoned businesses.
It’s sad

That was my initial thought too but some people on here know the family/husband and said there's no way.

What kind a work puts you in those neighborhoods? Utilities or power company or something like that?

If my employees could vote.. you'd have 4 downvotes out of 31 employees... 3 shot, 1 stabbed

To be fair, most have done jail time after their injuries

Something like that.

At this point I just stare at the crackheads when they knock on my window and then put the truck in drive.

They get pissed

Never really had much trouble in that area. But north there can get pretty rough.

I moved to Baton Rouge in May of 1992 for work, and have lived in the area ever since. And...knock on wood...I have yet to be a victim of a crime of any sort. Haven't even had anything stolen out of any of my vehicles. I've been lucky, I guess. I also try to avoid dangerous situations.

I can tell you as an ER nurse in Baton Rouge the news doesn’t report 80% of the GSW’s we get every week. You only hear about the ones that die and then only the ones that happen before 10pm. Luckily they mostly happen in the northern part of town.

Louisiana ranks as one of the top states for poverty and crime. It’s like that everywhere tho.

If you don’t like it, then leave!!!!

I used to bring a guy home after working in a restaurant and he lived behind the bus station, deep in the hood. He would always ask me to just drop him off at the corner and he'd walk. One night, it was raining and I insisted on bringing him to his house. It was a run down shack, but whatever. There was a car parked on the street and I just pulled up next to it to drop him off. He got kinda antsy and said 'no man, not here, pull up a bit' so I did. I was kinda confused and he said that his brother would probably think someone was about to break into his car and come out shooting. THat resonated with me about the environment this kid was growing up in. Never, at any place I've ever lived or anyone I've ever brought home, have I had to worry about someone coming out shooting over anything, much less because I was parked next to their car, with my lights on, for 30 seconds. I don't know, not a big thing but the anxiety and seriousness of his voice about stopping where I did and the danger that we were in but doing that left a mark on me. Also, just seeing the activity out on the street at midnight was surprising.

If drivers were as dangerous and stupid as the OT insists, there would be no traffic problems in BR. Everyone would have crashed and died.

perfect timing. This happened by the royal sonesta last night

n alleged attack on Bourbon Street on Jan. 18 has left one man hospitalized, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

The victim was in the 400 block of Bourbon just before 10 p.m. when he was struck from behind by an unidentified man, police said. The victim was knocked unconscious and hit his head on the concrete after falling to the ground.

He is listed in critical condition at an area hospital from injuries believed to have been sustained in the incident.

Thanks to the OT I now stay in my house hidden under a blanket 24/7. Safer that way.
