Cotton Bowl and he started them back up. As I said, they’d bring him back just to get it going. But also they had brought him back because he was trying to get them through the probation.

He wouldn't go back.

USC kinda screwed him and muted his legacy because of the sanctions - even though it was proved he had nothing to do with Bush's family doing the dirty deed.

Bush is the real pariah on the USC campus; but USC built this McKay center and gave Carroll a little note on one end of the complex outdoors...while McKay is plastered everywhere - despite USC never being better in its history than under Carroll's 10-year reign.

They've already been down this road with Robinson. I actually envision SC going away from anything to do with the entire Carroll tree after Helton is gone.

You can't go home again.

And especially if he started winning big again.

Oh vey! There would be NCAA guys living in cots on campus...along with the media. It would be a circus.

I think part of the NCAA deal was USC had to divorce itself from the Carroll era - ergo Bush is personna non grata...

Bringing back Carroll kinda goes against that. While USC of course disputes all the past sanctions and any knowledge of a rogue agent outside of the purview of USC, Bush's family was living in San Diego and that's where the agent bought his family the house...

It doesn't matter...public perception is so skewed to the facts, the media watchdog would be overbearing.

Plus the NCAA said they punished USC for Carroll's "coaching style" - they didn't like how USC's practices were open to the public and said they lacked instutional control because of it and celebrities on the sidelines gave them a recruiting advantage.

I don't think he will but usc needs a flashy hire with a dynamic offense like during the Pete Carroll days. Helton doesn't fit the mold for being an sc coach. Usc needs that coach who is always in the limelight. I just have no idea who could be that coach for them right now.

I don’t think the guy has an ounce of loyalty to whatever position he holds at any given moment so if things went south with Seattle? Sure he might bail out for an easier job like USC

I don't agree with this at all. Carroll has a muted legacy but two of his proteges in Kiffin and Sarkisian got to be the head coach after he left? Doesn't sound muted to me.

Now, Lynn Swann never hired Helton. Helton was hired by Pat Haden in what was thought of at the time of the hire as a bad hire. And, Helton has done nothing to disprove this. Lynn Swann wants more than anything to make a splashy hire and get Helton out of there. I wouldn't be surprised to see Pete Carroll back at USC or maybe a protege of his from the defensive side of the ball like Ken Norton Jr get a shot.

More like at USC it’s easy to recruit OL. The NFL if you can’t pass protect, you’re useless. That’s been the SEA Achilles heal for 3 seasons now.

What kind of comparison is this? Carroll is an elite NFL coach with a shite team. He could pull in a top 5!class with his eyes closed and have USC back in 2-3 years

I'd love to see him fail enough to get fired first, and then go there and fail, which is typically what happens with the second time around guys. The old fossil at K-State the arguable exception.

everyone is mentioning a flashy usc offense under Pete Carroll.

Ironically enough, they ran a rather vanilla, pro style attack. They just had 2 of the best college football players ever at their respective positions to operate the offense.

It's pretty weird how Pete Carroll has turned into Les Miles in the NFL after all of those years at USC dominating with their passing game and explosive offense. Yeah, I know the NFL and college football are two different beasts but it's still strange to see a Pete Carroll offense so toothless and inept.

Chow wasn’t exactly running crazy offenses during their tenure. They just had insane talent across the board and ran efficient pro style offenses.

Coach O was very popular at SC. Admin didn't want him for the same reasons a lot of people (still) don't want him at LSU: Snobbery. I am glad O seems to have figured it out at LSU. You're always gonna have great athletes there, just need a good supporting cast of coaches and let them do their jobs.

Helton, Tee Martin and (OL Coach) Callaway all need to go, IMHO. Just not getting it done, and with the athletes we have at SC, there's no excuse not to be better than where we are.

I'd take Pete back right now, along with replacement OC and OL coaches.
