Diffrent school I guess. Not that Microsoft wasn't out or anything. But yes I do remember not printing out a thing, unless it was a picture or something to illustrate the paper. We did make our own Power Points, but it was said that if it was typed they didn't know if you wrote it or someone else.

old people" who "suck" at computers don't necessarily bother me. My dad drives a machine for a logging company and my mother was a self employed business owner.

Not talking about these people

quote:

I get annoyed by people (not just the old) who literally sit in front of a computer 8 hours a day yet can't do basic tasks like open a web browser or click on the start menu nor do they understand simple concepts like downloading files or copy/paste.

This is what I mean. You have a computer in front of you. You have google and YouTube. Figure it out yourself. They don’t even try

My dad is 78. Had one of the first computers available. All of his retired colleagues were writing programs for their own applications 35 years ago with little to no instruction.

I know plenty of "young people" that are computer illiterate.

So I guess my point is, stop making shitty threads.

Or cursive writing. lol

Because obsolete technology and writing styles are comparable to current and widespread technology.

Shitty anecdotal evidence. By and large younger people are far better at using computers than older generations. Like it's not even close.

That's a bit dramatic. How in the world was my post insufferable or cüntish?

I actually got mad at one of my people for suggesting we should not push an excel workbook I created because “not everyone has developed excel skills.”

bullshite. If you’ve worked in any industry within the last 25 years, you’ve used excel. I don’t care if your 80, you should be able to enter simple information into a spreadsheet. I’m not asking to write VB scripts.

I used to send workbooks with locked fields out to subs for their pay applications. If you’re familiar with the AIA docs, it was basically that. Invariably my admin would spend time every month walking people thorough how to enter data into a spreadsheet. Sweet Jesus how do you run a business in the 21st century without being able to use basic modern computer skills?

Seriously? I need a link for this?

Here's the average age of silicon valley developers for one. The vast majority are 20-29 and the average age is 28.

Well yeah, because you were all
quote:

Shitty anecdotal evidence.
, so since we're not allowed to give anecdotal examples of how this OP is an over-generalization, I would like to see black and white link that backed up your remark.

Or can you not give one? I don't know what that stupid bullshite is that you called a link...like that has anything to do with providing evidence...

Like the link I provided?

Oh okay, you're just a clown. Got it. I gave you a link when I really didn't need to.

People who grew up with this technology are better at adapting to and using new technology as it comes. It's absurd that you're trying to imply younger generations on the whole are not vasty better at using this than past generations. Utterly absurd.

Also I'm not quite sure you know what anecdotal means.

That's a black and white concrete example of evidence? Really?

quote:

Oh okay, you're just a clown.
And you're a dumbass who thinks he's brilliant.

I gave you a link when I really didn't need to.
Right, and it was bullshite. All that tells me is the average age of developers in silicon valley. How does that say anything about "old people suck at computers"? Do you really want to hang your hat on that being a link that provides evidence? Really?

quote:

People who grew up with this technology are better at adapting to and using new technology as it comes.
No shite. But there's a difference between being "better at adapting to and using new technology" and "old people suck at computers".
quote:

Also I'm not quite sure you know what anecdotal means.
Let's see,
quote:

not necessarily true or reliable, based on personal accounts rather than facts or research.
Yep, checks out with my definition. Next?

Yes? It shows that the majority of developers in silcon valley are the younger generations...

quote:

Right, and it was bullshite.

To you. You're being intellectually dishonest in order to be right.

quote:

No shite. But there's a difference between being "better at adapting to and using new technology" and "old people suck at computers".
quote:

The former was my post, the latter was OP. Try not to mix that up. My original post was "By and large younger people are far better at using computers than older generations. Like it's not even close." I didn't say old people suck at computers, OP did.

And since you're still struggling with the word anecdotal:

quote:

not necessarily true or reliable, based on personal accounts rather than facts or research.

I used no personal accounts and provided the developer age bracket facts, so thanks.

Because we know how to fix cars and lawnmowers. You have to choose one or the other.

No, it tells us the average age of a developer in silicon valley. That's it. You're connecting a lot of dots in between and being

quote:

intellectually dishonest in order to be right.
to quote you.

Anyway, just playing devil's advocate here. I was bored and wanted to e-fight somebody. Funny thing is, I agree with you.
