Wrong. Head is covered anytime a soldier is outside

One slight exception to this is when they are in PT uniform
Other than that to everything you said.
I've been in since Nov '88 (will retire in 2 more years) and the product that has been coming out of Basic sine the early 2000's has been less than stellar. For every great Soldier we get, there 4 others that I would want to send back.
The Suede boot has contributed to the lack of discipline and pride in the uniform. Remember polishing your boots everyday so that you didn't look ATFU? I think the army needs to go back to leather boots, Hell even the new dress shoes don't require much maintenance.
PC has infected the Army in an awful way. The Drill SGTs aren't even allowed to break you down and build you into a Soldier. Be careful what you say, you may have a complaint filed against you for hurt feelings. How are the Drill Instructors supposed to do their job with all the PC BS?

You’re exactly right. I still have my old summertime PT uniform, although the shorts are covered in paint now.

Damn. You went in about the same time I did. I enlisted the Spring of ‘88 and arrived at my first duty station in Fulda, Germany in October 88.

Still have my tanker boots to this very day. When I die, I’ll be buried in ‘em.

That’s whats wrong. The whole purpose of basic combat training (we called it OSUT) is to tear down the ate-the-frick-up civilian and turn them into a highly trained, motivated, and DISCIPLINED solider ready to be an integral part of a military unit. The fact they don’t do this anymore is what’s wrong with today’s army. Breaks my heart to know what we had back in my day and see what’s been done to it.

It starting going downhill my last year which was 2008 and from what I see now leadership has failed miserably since. Drill Sgts. pulled from AIT, ASVAB waivered retards everywhere now, automatic promotions, general lack of discipline all together. They need to get back to basics and teach rank structure and following orders from superiors without question and allowing NCOs to run the show...

Yeah bc kids who are killing it in other areas of life, arts, academics, athletics, entrepreneurship, so often drop all that to go enlist in the army infantry at age 18. You get some who go be officers after college maybe, or try out for special forces. But the best and brightest don’t join the fricking army infantry anymore. They used to maybe, but not in 2018.

What’s that have to do with somebody talking stereotypes like he's lived it?

Honesty it's weird...

"I'm going to make fun of the Air Force because I've seen other branches do it a couple of times, even though I have no clue whether it's true or not."

To each his own though

A little earlier than that, IMO. We noticed a dramatic decrease in discipline in the soldiers we were getting from IET around 2004. It coincided roughly with the push to let anyone in after Iraq.
