Actually, France wanted to stop Germany early on.
The British didn’t have their back, so appeasement ruled.
Of course when you’re country goes 1-2 in WWII and fights allied with Hitler, you kind of loose a little moral authority to preach against your savior!

Our family recently traveled to Normandy with a French tour guide. He explained their were only 90 French soldiers for the landing on D Day out of 154,000 soldiers. He was reluctant to admit it. He was also embarrassed to admit that the 90 French soldiers liberated a casino.
