From 247:

quote:

But I felt like we delivered some blows, especially on the defensive line," Orgeron said. "We did not get pushed around. We did the pushing around in a lot of instances. So I think that we made some progress there."

quote:

It was an easy opportunity for Orgeron to point to recruiting and how that can finish closing the gap with Alabama that the staff is desperately trying to do. While skill players like 2018 five-star prospects Terrace Marshall and Patrick Surtain, Jr. are seen as LSU leans, 2019 has some elite prospects in the trenches already committed to LSU including five-star linemen Kenyon Green and Kardell Thomas while defensive lineman Ishmael Sopsher is an in-state target that LSU and Alabama are both after.

quote:

The battle in the trenches has been the difference the last few times LSU and Alabama faced off. Orgeron sees the gap closing and naturally, he's going to recruit hard to finish closing the gap.

Ha, ha. That's cute. Obviously you don't follow recruiting and realize that 2018 is a down year in Louisiana talent at RB and OL/DL. 2019 looks to be one of the biggest Louisiana talent pools in years. You do realize 247 is a recruiting site don't you? You do realize that's why the staff at 247 make that statement don't you? If you don't understand that then please let me know and I will try to rephrase it so you will understand.

Well, the 2018 class is a rank mediocrity thus far, so the talent gap will only grow barring some unforseen flurry of commitments.

Meh. It isn't a Top 5 class, but it doesn't need to be. It isn't mediocre, either - if we close with guys like Surtain and company - yes we need to develop another OT or 5. Yes, we need to find another ILB or 3. We have to find a feature back for 2018. Yes, we need Brennan and/or Narcisse to be a conference Top 4 or 5 QB - ASAFP - but those aren't huge steps.

Depth at OL continues to be a problem that we can't really fix this upcoming cycle - but it can get better.

If we're talking about closing the gap, yeah we need top 5 classes. Hell that was Orgeron's entire appeal.

If "a couple players" means "one", and "one" means "quarterback", I agree.

No offense to Danny, but Saturday night proved that LSU is lacking a QB and not much else. We already knew depth on the lines was thin, but they still held their own against Alabama, and even outperformed Alabama at times. The WRs were getting open and putting themselves in position to make plays. RBs played a very solid game. Defense, while susceptible to big plays at times, did extremely well.

But LSU lost that game because the QB couldn't make the plays when needed. Plain and simple.

LSU will have a Top 12 to 15 class if things line up just right. There isn't a heck of a lot of difference between 6 and 15, to be honest and that's good enough if it fills needs.

I say that because of how good the 2017 class appears to be now that we've seen many of them play, and how good 2019 will be - could end up being a Top 5 all time LSU recruiting class.

Actually, we're one player (or position) away from closing the gap. One that can throw a deep ball when it's there and hit other open players when it's not. Simple as that.

Jordan Jefferson would be a major upgrade. I’d take just about any starting QB situation above what we’ve had the past 2 years

WTF? Every year Alabama has a down year Saban signs the #1 class. GTFO with those excuses.

There's hardly any difference between 1 and 6.
There's hardley ant difference between 15 and 30.
Ergo, there's hardly any difference between 1 and 30.

There's a lot of other reasons to like him. I like the way the team has played with such intensity lately under him. Also the way the offense has opened up in regards to being much more unpredictable and less straight forward even going back to last year. Lot of good things since he took over, though some stumbles as might be expected with a new regime.

The QB position gets so much attention p, but is so misunderstood by our fans.
We are more than one player away from challenging for championships.
And QB is not our weakest area.
Etling has not been as bad as many suggest and he rarely loses games.
If you want to focus on QB exclusively, it is fair to observe he has not carried us to wins we would otherwise not have obtained.

I’m confused on why Coach O thinks it’s important to say these things. It just makes getting your arse kicked by Miss state and Troy look worse.

So he has immediate, short term, intermediate and long term goals for the program and a plan to reach each.

Sounds like the binder is working.
