There's a group that meets every Saturday morning at the CCs on Coursey.

They meet there during the week as well. They used to be funny but they have run a lot of customers off as well. They are not the typical old fart types.

I noticed this phenomenon every time I went to a local coffee house back when I lived in Memphis.

Looked like the same group of happy old rednecks every morning talking about the weather, fishing, football and women. Same table by the corner window.

In our town, it was at the Exxon gas station. 1. old men 2. younger men with "disabilities". We called it the crack-back club. Loud and raucous 7 days a week.

One piece of advice: If ya ever on da road and find ya self in need of local info or have trouble look for the spot yall talking about. They will be glad to help ya and it makes em feel useful and happy. They will bend over backwards to help and sometimes get in a argument about the best way to do so. When on da road and having trouble they are a very valuable resource.

I don't understand the appeal of gas stations for these old man meet ups. Or chain restaurants for that matter. Most towns have a locally owned diner/breakfast spot.

Some small towns are actually proud of their chain fast food places. The town my parents grew up in had local places, but none were ever open for breakfast. They'd open up from 11-2 for lunch, then 5-9 for dinner. My grandpa went to the Hardee's every morning. When I was a kid, and when I was a teenager, if we were ever staying with them, I'd get up and go with them. Just a bunch of 65+ guys sipping coffee and eating biscuits, and shooting the breeze for an hour. They'd talk about yard work, the church functions coming up, projects they had going on, etc. I figure by the time I'm that age, I'll probably want an excuse to get out of the house for an hour every morning and see friends.

This town has maybe 2,500 people. It was a big deal a few years ago when they got a McDonald's. All the family from there that are on Facebook were posting selfies in the parking lot the day it opened. I still remember the first time I took my wife down there to visit. I was in college, and she was a Sr in high school. We'd been dating about a year and I was going to visit and took her with me. She was asking me all about the town, and I told her it was pretty small. But that they now had a Subway. She thought I meant public transit, not a sandwich shop. They have a Hardee's, Subway, and now the McDonald's. The only grocery stores are Piggly Wiggly and IGA. The only hardware store is Ace. Couple of gas stations, and that is about it.

My grandpa is in the crew where I'm from. They hang out at the Hardee's. Gets a biscuit and a coffee every morning.

And all of them wait outside the front door and yell at the employees for not being open yet or when they're a few minutes late.

When I was studying for the CPA exam, I'd frequent coffee shops and I see the same thing. Usually it was once a week for where I was. They'd talk about LSU football, politics, whatever. I found them kinda annoying, but I was studying for the CPA exam so I found just about everything in life annoying.

There's a mom and pop burger spot where I live that has old men drinking beer at 10 in the morning on Saturdays. I hope to become a member of that club.

Used to be the Hibernia/ Capital One in Denham Springs. i would go in most mornings to make deposits for my business and there would always be 4 or 5 of them sitting on the couches in the lobby drinking coffee.
