What she screwed up was forcing an intimate, lasting relationship at all. Dating, fine. That's "normal" but finding the person you marry at 11 (and especially having a close friendship from the start) just doesn't fit well... And she did it with all of the main characters.

I've read all of them, some of them twice, and enjoyed them as I read them. They have significant flaws though.
The main sport in the series was very clearly designed by someone with no idea how sports work.
