Never read Harry Potter books

They'll make you dislike the changes in the movies. One in particular in regards to Dumbledore's demise. I also didn't like the changes to Harry/Ginny's first kiss.

I didn't read the series or watch any of the movies until about 4 years ago. I was trying to get my oldest into reading and the ploy I utilized was reading the first book together, then we'd watch the movie. Needless to say, she didn't make it past the third book but I couldn't put the books down. Very well written. And I like that the books get more mature as the kids age.

Red them in my late 20s about 7 years ago. Thought they were absolutely fantastic. I thought the best thing about them was the development of Harry as a teenager.

My biggest gripe was I've always felt the end/ final showdown and aftermath was a bit rushed.

I was 13 when I read the first book. It was the school year after the 4th book was released. I had avoided them until then but needed points for accelerated reader at my school. Started with the first and read all four before the end of the year. Got the last 3 on their launch days and finished them within 48 hours.

Be prepared for some large differences between how you would rank the books vs how you would rank the movies.

I read the first one in 7th grade because it was assigned. I remember liking it, but never moved to the next one for whatever reason. Then, about 8 or so years later, I'm bored living at home during summer break in college. I decided to reread Sorcerer's Stone after watching the movie. I finished it in 2 days and was instantly hooked. I finished all seven books that summer. The next summer I started ASOIAF. After reading those books two times through, I still have not found a book series that hooks me like the those two did back in college/early adulthood.

They are fantastic and are worth the hype.

The only series I can say I’ve read every book at least 4-5x each, though it’s been a long time. I love everything about this universe really. Planning on listening to the audio version for the first time next year.

HP will always be my sentimental fave series just because I grew up with them and loved the magic, some pun intended. Fond memories of going out to grab the new ones at midnight and staying up reading until I was finished.

In adult years, I really appreciate how the story gets darker and more somber the further you guy as the characters age. The movies did a good job capturing that too imo.

I'm actually going through them again with my niece right now as she's reading them for the first time. Cool family bonding moments as she's really starting to become a reader and able to think for herself beyond what's been programmed in her head from school.
