I understand and accept the intangibles and like most I wish LSU would and could go all out in not just athletic programs but maybe the real reason the school is here- education. But that's going off track of the threads question.

Let me ask this. Would the board prefer, like another poster mentioned, that LSU was mediocre in softball, gymnastics, like in the past with a super strong track program? Because those two programs more than any others improved with investment. Yeah we all want both but that's not an option.

It's not like A&M offered a hundred bucks more a year. They offered a package that they knew LSU wouldn't match. It was insanely crazy package. Which is fine.

I know we all like to think LSU should have unlimited funds for every sport. That'd be nice but be realistic.

You are a moron. Who cheaped out on Nick? He didn't leave b/c of money. There wasn't any amount of money that was going to keep him. Nick had a blank check from Bertman and Emmeret while he was at LSU.

The same thing can be said of Alleva and Herman. Alleva didn't cheap out and lose a bidding war to Texas. (LSU Ain't got that kind of bank). Herman was going to Texas as soon as the Longhorns fired Strong.

Skip did let Henry walk because of dollars and program support. Lots of sports lose money so it wasn't a profit and loss thing. It was a value thing. Bertman and the TAF didn't value track that much.

much money do you donate to the track program. How many track meets did you attend in 2000? How many this year?

Natty's in everything is all that matters. That freaking coach from Arky got Tyson to pay for their stadium and it makes money.
It was about the indoor facility, plain and simple. LSU specifically Skip Bertman was jealous and cheap!

You think Bertman was jealous of Henry? Think you got that a little backwards, my man.

Need some proof of this. Can't imagine any college T&F program makes money.

Simple, Skip insisted on his wife having the concessions operation for track camp. Just not enough slices of pizza in the pie.

Would it be great to keep winning track championships like Henry did here? Sure but tell me how losing money on track and field is worth it

At the time LSU had one, ONE sport that made money. So by that logic, baseball, basketball and every other sport should just hire bottom of the barrel coaches and cut loose anyone that asked for a raise.

Skip couldn't justify paying Pat Henry more when they lost the most money in the athletics program. I tend to agree with Skip.

This. The only thing worse than track is field.

LSU loses its arse financially in track and field, and a new stadium/facility/whatever wouldn't help that. I highly doubt Arky is making money off it, either.

You are wrong. Track & Field =\= Football. The decision not to chase Henry had a clear logic to it.

the Tyson is a premier indoor event every year. Plus the company pays for the sponsorship through endowments to the school. I'm not sure how you get that information though. For example they gave 1.3 to ag last year at UA. They paid 8MM to get the stadium which holds about 6000. They host the national championships since 2000.
How to get that added up, I'm not sure because it's donations to the athletic department.
Hosting championships makes kids want to attend your school.
