Go look at LSU, A&M, MSU, AU's classes.

If you're worried about what LSU, A&M, and MSU are doing, just look at their coaches. None of those guys can coach their way out of a wet paper bag! Plus, there is plenty of shadiness concerning their recruiting. AU has a good coach and great recruiter in Pearl. They are going to have some success in the coming years, and then it will all come crashing down.

I'm not saying they should be, but the football miss comparison doesn't really hold water

I'm not trying to crap on the football program and understand it's an apple to oranges comparison, but they do have misses as well. The point was it is easier to cover those up in the eyes of the fans when you have ~25 new guys coming in each year, whereas basketball has 2-5 new guys coming in each year.

They just aren't guys who take you to the sweet 16, most likely

I respectively disagree. I think with our current construction, if we can stay healthy, we have a legitimate shot of making the sweet 16 next year. Maybe the fans will take notice then. At least I will have the satisfaction of knowing I have been rooting them on through the thick and thin!

Also, thanks for engaging in some discussion about the basketball team! That shows that we are starting the make some strides. In the past, no one would even talk about them!

I'm not worried about them, but if they can get players then Georgia can too. I hate to say it, but basketball recruiting is shady as hell. I'm glad it's not my job to navigate it, but Fox and his staff are paid to. Basketball is talent driven, and they need players.

It's also easier to mask because each football miss is marginally less important to the success of a team, just because there are fewer players.

I'm rooting for them. I played a ton of basketball and watch a ton of it. I'd love for Georgia to be a consistent contender, which is why I'm critical.

I've been to almost every basketball game over the last six years. Since getting to UGA I have paid a ton of attention to this basketball team and I like looking at the models of other successful programs to try and learn for our program. Fox has great X's and O's and the back cuts we run are really good. I think he occasionally struggles with time management, but so do many college coaches. The one area we need work on is recruiting. That would help with better facilities, but getting an in with a great AAU program or getting a big name guy to stay for a couple years would be great. I think we'd be in much better shape if Leslie and Thompkins wouldn't have left prematurely after 2011, but like you said we need to build on last year. Two straight great years will be huge for this program.
