Every time this gets bumped I get my hopes up for half a second thinking there might be news.

It's a clown show at this point.

We all know he’s afraid to finish it at this point. Impossible for him to insulate himself from the inevitable criticism now that he has embraced the fame so much. Oh well… we may have had a bad ending (hbo series), but at least we got AN ending.

Daily Express Article

quote:

The writer shared on his blog how he’s planning on visiting the Belfast set of The Hedge Knight in July.

Martin wrote: “The show will make its debut next year… and if it does well, THE SWORN SWORD and THE MYSTERY KNIGHT will follow.” These are the other two published Dunk and Egg short stories, but he has more in the works.

He added: “By which time I hope to have finished some more Dunk & Egg stories (yes, after I finish THE WINDS OF WINTER).”

Wonder if the person who wrote this article actually believes this...

quote:

Given the 75-year-old hopes to have Winds and some more shorts written by the time season 3 of The Hedge Knight comes out suggests he plans to be done with both the upcoming Game of Thrones novel and novellas by the end of the decade.

If he somehow manages to finish WoW in the next few years, they actually think he's going to write another 1,500 page novel in a year or two?

Right now he's not even averaging writing 100 pages a year for WoW.

I’d bet he hasn’t written a single word of WoW in at least a year.

If he did, it will be a 10 page description of a feast that he wrote while he was waiting for his DoorDash order

I personally believe two books is not enough to finish all of the plotlines that have yet to wrap up.

Agree. And I believe that is the biggest thing keeping him from publishing anything else.

He’s not willing to write all the books needed to end it right, and he figures no books or just one more book is better than lazily writing 4 shitty books.

I bet we get a book that’s more like Fire and Blood flying through things than the regular novels.

They are (probably should say were) going to be by far the biggest books of the series. It's essentially three books worth. With the size, it should be plenty enough to wrap it up.

I don't know why but I still think he gets out Winds of Winter, but obviously never A Dream of Spring.

I'll keep saying it, but for me, I'd rather have a complete story with an underwhelming ending, than a non complete story. I think he wants a perfect ending and it's just not going to happen. Plenty of my favorite TV shows were very good series with very average endings (not Game of Thrones ). I can respect someone much more for actually putting in the work and finishing a story than someone being a coward and scared that people won't like his ending. There are going to be people who love or hate it no matter what the ending is. They important thing is that you actually gave your readers an ending.

I don't know why I keep doing it to myself, but every couple of years I get into an ASOIAF kick and take on some of the material. This time I am listening to a podcast called Radio Westeros while I run that has a 10 part series as a primer to TWOW. I am so damn into it. It's incredible how many different characters you can be interested in. Also, they point out little call backs and things that I didn't realize even after reading the books 3 times.

However, they are priming me for nothing, and that makes me sad.

Even with his talk of being a "gardener" you would still think that the writing would go faster towards the end. After all these years he has to have pretty solid ideas about the fates of the main players, he just has to get there
