I’ve done a handful of short, direct spirit flight out of msy (usually going to Dallas) and never had a problem

Last time I did it, it saved me about $300

The problem with spirit is their reliability. If your flight gets cancelled/delayed your options are extremely limited

I was told a couple of years ago that they do not have assigned gates....they have gates they can use IF they arrive on time and the gate is available...but any glitch anywhere causes ripple effects. Supposedly one way that the budget airlines are able to sell tickets at the prices they do. I don't know if it is so but I do know they are prone to landing and staying near a gate for extended periods of times waiting to unload.

From watching videos, avoid Spirit flights out of South Florida or the Northeast and you'll be fine.

I believe Fort Lauderdale must be center of the bitch universe.

I flew from Vegas to the liberal shite hole aka Los Angeles. The flight was fine. I had one carryon and everything went smooth. Of course, we knew what we were getting into and prepared accordingly.

Thats the secret...they ain't selling the same product that full price airlines are selling...its not an apple to apple comparison. If Delta treated passengers like Spirit and Frontier as often as the latter 2 do they could probably sale tickets for 25% of what other airlines do....if you understand what it is you are buying its fine. The problem is that most people only look at price and book accordingly...expecting an experience without hiccups. I have done it myself....I now avoid them altogether. $300 difference in ticket price for a 4 hour flight keeps some of the element that wants to go but can only pay $100 to do so off the $400 flight and that is fine by me....

The biggest issue with Spirit is the delays. Other than that, never had an issue. You get what you pay for. If you’re an easy traveler then it’s a great option for direct flights.

This is my issue. I don't mind the people....you have to know going in that people who are paying $100 for a flight instead of $400 are liable to be a little rougher crowd. I am fine with that. What I am not fine with is leaving late and arriving late and waiting for hours to get to a gate once landed. It has happened to me several times and has happened to family several times. My wife and kids had a Spirit flight flat out cancelled 2 years ago and wound up driving from Atlanta to Chicago....we had a "credit" for those tickets but Spirit has yet to honor it....

I've flown Spirit from Atlanta to Orlando to Colombia and from Atlanta to Detroit.

My trips dont begin when I get to my destination but rather when I start to travel so yeah....spending more for an upgraded experience is an easy decision. I can find money in the budget other ways than to experience hours of that nightmare.

Spirit does exactly what they say they will do with no frills. The only issue is the people who get on there. New Orleans amplifies that issue big time. I've taken a carnival cruise out of miami with no problems. Do that out of New Orleans and you'll never sail again

There are a few places we go that spirit has the best direct flights. Getting out of FLL on spirit can be a bit of a shitshow but I got that spirit credit card to get some of the frills they offer. It’s like being the mayor of doodoo city.

I’ve had similar experiences with Spirit. It’s great until Spirit decides to be Spirit.

THIS....You can have a good flight. I bought a car in Houston and got a 29 dollar Spirit flight. It was early so the natives were not yet restless. I have also gone to Los Angeles where after an hour I wished I had paid a thousand dollars more rather than stay one more minute on the flight.

One thing they do have to keep above the Greyhound passengers in the back is what I call their White Trash First Class and they call the Big Front Seats. Ten larger seats in the front and you get to board and deplane first. It usually does not add too much to the cost and you are right next to the flight attendant with the drinks.

It files fast, is comfortable and is reasonably priced. What more could you ask for. And in the current climate, it is an Airbus.

It’s fine for people with no moving parts. Solo with a carry on for business, etc

I have to say it was a pleasant experience.

I actually hear this more often than the Spirit horror stories. And let's face it......these days every single airline has horror stories.

For Nola area people that want to take an easy fast flight to Costa Rica-MSY to SJO via Fort Lauderdale for the win. Early flight, early noon arrival, through customs before the crowds arrive and on to your hotel in Los Suenos or Jaco or La Fortuna or Manuel Antonio by early evening

Did this last year, wasn’t bad, went with a backpack only. They use to let you do a carry one on on international flights but they cut that out to. Customs was still a bitch.

Couple years ago, did a round trip flight to Orlando for less than $50.

The one time I flew Spirit, the plane was obviously not as nice and they did charge for extra things that others don't. But that's to be expected amd can be dealt with at the low price. What I couldn't deal with was the other people. Flight there and back was the trashiest, most inconsiderate passengers. De-boarding was a nightmare. Haven't flown with them since.
