It's sad seeing millennials talk so gracefully about not having kids...

As a fellow millennial at 34, my wife and I's first is currently on the way. It doesn't feel real to me, yet, but I've been told that switch will flip when I'm standing there in the delivery room holding it.
I honestly feel like the kids we do have will end up blaming us for our country's shortcomings just like we're currently doing with Boomers and GenX.
But some of the comments I've been reading are just sad:

But some of the comments I've been reading are just sad:
quote:
36 here and no kids. I helped raise my sister’s kids while I was a teen and knew then that I didn’t want any of my own.
quote:
Yep. 35 and had my vasectomy done last year. No kids for me.
quote:
It took me 3 tries before a doc agreed to give me a vasectomy. I have never had a regret, even a little bit and it is glorious.
Why wouldn't they do this for me at 18? At 25? Why did I have to wait until my 30s to get healthcare?
quote:
I'm just a slight bit younger and also did mine last year.
No regrets. Especially as I was just recently lounging in a nice hotel hot tub and listening to some little kids shrieking while playing in the adjacent pool, making the same sounds that I imagine people would make while being dismembered with a chainsaw.
quote:
Turning 35 this year, married, and childfree. There are rare days that I wonder if I’m missing out and then I see our friends and family with theirs. That effectively cements my childfree status. I was parentified as a child and honestly, I would rather regret not having kids than regret having them.
quote:
29F here, I’m a fence sitter. There’s something in me that really does want to have a kid but I also like the idea of having the money and freedom to travel and have other experiences that kids can kind of hinder. But then, there’s that nagging feeling that when I’m old I’ll regret it if I don’t have one. And I look at the amazing relationship my mom and I have and want that for myself with my own child, too.
I dunno man. shite’s hard
quote:
Fwiw, our perspective is that you can 100% parent "correctly" and there is zero guarantee that your children will still be 1) living near you in old age, 2) have a close relationship with you in old age, 3) develop into adults that share interests & commonalities with you.
Being real about it being a crap shoot of having a close relationship with children later in life helped us make our decision about no kids (along with additional considerations).

Probably best that the mentally ill leftist millennials do not have kids.

What is parentified?

Then maybe you shouldn't be so whiny and stop blaming others for your problems and your kids will follow suit?

Popped out two future right leaning independents. Did my due diligence

Agreed but I’d rather wish we had a society that valued community, family, and culture. Instead, these selfish assholes will go on bragging about being child free until they get old and demand our children work to support their retirement.

Same here. It's easy to just write those people off and make some joke about how they shouldn't breed anyway. That might be true, but the less and less people participate in that community/family/culture, the worse things are for everyone. So in that sense, it is sad to read that stuff.

I don't mind that a bunch of weirdo redditors don't want kids.

I'm okay with it. Having kids isn't for everyone and some parents will subject their kids to shitty upbringings that the rest of society has to suffer with.

Sounds good to me. People who don't want children and probably won't make great parents choosing not to have kids is better than the alternative.
Plus, it helps with traffic, and traffic is bad enough already.

Don't worry friend. The new muslim population will take care of you in your golden years.

I was reading the instructions on a tea bag yesterday, which stated "steep for four minutes, or whatever you enjoy!"
And I thought, "no, dammit! I'll enjoy what's proper. Four minutes it is!"
Then I wondered "what is the root of all of this damned non conformist, instituational loathing, I'll do it my own way mindset that culminates in untethered self expression, thus eventually producing non binary genders and the like.
And then it hit me...
We created it.
It starts with corporate greed. Does it not?
Community, family, faith, culture. Capitalism has destroyed it all.
Marxism has too, but only en route to trying to destroy capitalism.
To be clear, Marxism is not the answer.
Christian charity is.
How and why did we let it get so out of hand?

Vasectomies and tube tie should be offered for free for anyone who wants it. Too many incompatible, unprepared people have kids they did not consciously produce. Left with kids in poverty, in broken homes, underfed and under-educated. And that could be prevented with a free vasectomy

I would have been a shitty father.
Worked out best for me.

It's very sad. Deep down, I think most of these people either can't afford children or are disillusioned with the prospects of finding a partner. I'm 32 and most of the people I know who say they don't want kids would be either unable to financially support them or have struggled to find anyone. Telling others "they don't want children" is psychologically easier than admitting that things just haven't worked out the way that they wanted or planned.

For this reason, I don't get mad about these weirdos or the trans people. We don't want them having kids. It's better that they make themselves known.
