Economy must be doing great to be thinking like this.

. Chrysler, Honda, Toyota and even Kia/Hyundai have good minivans

Kia's are over priced. IMO, I would rank:

1) Honda Odyssey: $$$
1A) Toyota Sienna: $$$$
2) Chrysler Pacifica: $$ (Hybrid: $$$)
3) Kia Carnival: $$$

Before 3rd row SUVs and minivans, we had a station wagon with the fold up suicide seat in the back. 3rd rows have been available for 40 years.

OP I'm watching the new Chevy traverse. So far it's bit getting good reviews.

Seven seater required for 3? Do you have a couple dogs or something?

My wife and I were just discussing this Saturday. We have one kid and two 5-seaters (small suv and sedan). We could handle a second, but it might get tight if, say, we go to visit my in-laws fully laden with baby gear and the dog comes with.

A 3 row is probably in our future a few years down, but it would probably still be a convenience more than a necessity. For the time being and near future, we can manage 99.9% of driving scenarios.

That out of the way, one of my buddies recently got a Palisade, fully loaded, and loves it. I like the looks and price of a telluride more, but haven’t ridden or driven one. My sister has a Highlander hybrid and it seems great. Seems like a lot of great options in this segment.

If you get a large SUV now with only one kid, your wife will NEVER drive a car again. That's all she's going to want.

Amazing how countless generations of kids were shuttled around without this apparent requirement.
My mom carried a whole damn Dixie Youth baseball team of 8 yr old boys in her station wagon (with wood side-panels) and our 1 old canvas bag of "equipment" when I was a kid.

One thing to know is your garage space. We couldn't fit a Suburban or Sequoia and have space to walk around them. Went with an older Lexus LX470. Fits well but 3rd row jump seats are only good for young children. Hope this helps.

There is no 3-row SUV you are considering that the in-laws will want to sit in the 3rd row. The 3rd rows are good for 10 and under children at best.

My wife only likes sedans and hates driving big vehicles. She still hits plenty of curbs in those too though.

She currently drives a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I'm thinking if we clean out the garage some we should be able to squeeze my mid siz suv in there as well.
