I think the earliest it should start is on a Thursday. Give the weekend rotation arms at least 5 days rest in between starts. Just asking for injuries starting the tournament after a quick turnaround of weekend series.

There is really no way to do that unless they downsized it to eight teams and moved to single elimination, or only four teams and use a regional format. The tournament has to be wrapped up by Sunday evening.

Exactly. Make their arms throw more heading into the postseason.

The early SEC tournament start is due to all the rain outs. They really need to finish the season a week early, so you can start the SEC tournament the following Thursday (giving a full weeks rest for the arms - so everyone has their ace available). Plus this would let the championship run through mid -week, if needed, and still have rest prior to the post-season.

Just push the other dates further back, it doesn’t have to end on a Sunday. There’s no federal law that mandates that.

There is an NCAA tournament that is slightly more important. They have to be done by Sunday otherwise the remaining SEC teams, which are NCAA tournament bound, would just forfeit.

They could start it Thursday if they did single elimination all the way through. There is absolutely no point in making it double elimination past the first round. Makes teams use up and fatigue a ton of pitching going into the tournament. Also every game would be extremely exciting if it was always win or go home.

A. selection show is on Monday, so you need a champion before that.

B. Regionals start on the following Friday, so you want to be done early enough to recover for those.

Next year everyone will make it and it will be single elimination. But the tournament will still start on a Tuesday.

This is a silly thing to hope for. Some guys respond well to throwing on shorter rest, some guys struggle with it. Acting like it’s 100% a good thing or 100% a bad thing is a stupid way to look at it l. You never know how these guys will respond to short rest OR longer rest than usual

Next year the SEC Tournament will include all 16 teams and be single elimination the entire way through.

And you’re doing the same thing by pushing it back. Regionals start the next Friday so you’re shortening that week of recovery/ prep leading up to the ACTUAL tournament.

You didn’t think this one through did you?

Let your boyfriend proofread your posts from now on.

Honestly.. i agree. They should find another venue (Birmingham Barons?) and play the 2 brackets simultaneously.

That would take a little juice out of the event, tho. Low key love these 10:30am starts and 10pm first pitches

There absolutely is a point. The closer to double elimination they can get the more likely to get a deserving champion. That’s irrefutable, and it is “a point”. I’m not going to argue with someone who wants it to go single elimination. It’s a legitimate point of view, along with several others. There really is no good solution.

Yeah, a good friend who is a UVA baseball fan happened to look at the SEC tournament schedule and could not believe there is a play-in round day 1, verbatim "So the SEC basically has a play-in round before double eliminations - wow". Let's call it what it currently is. When all teams get in next season is double elimination to start or this same shite?

This will be my yearly "The SEC Baseball Tournament is the dumbest event in sports" rant.

It really is. Single elimination for a little while, then double elimination, then single elimination again. And most of the top teams have no desire to be there. And all of the Tuesday teams don't have their best pitching available. It is such a farce.
