In basketball, some coaches are good at manipulating RPI by scheduling beatable teams that will compete for their conference championship and a tournament bid.

Xavier was exactly that kind of team and I think they hoped Stoney Brook would be. The bigger problem for LSU is the overall weakness of midweek games, which is mostly dependent on state schools being better than they were this year.

We lost a quality midweek opponent by playing ULL on a weekend. (though this win is better for us as a neutral site than it would have as a home game)

We also had the weird opening two weekends that replaced normal midweeks with probably worse weekend opponents.

We did ourselves a favor with adding the SLU away game. But could do even better for ourselves by mixing in games at LaTech and ULL.

We used to play Lamar in the midweek pretty regularly. They would have been a better schedule addition than North Dakota State.

I like that we're playing Dallas Baptist next year, but the neutral site game will make it almost impossible to watch for fans (the midweek games at Globe Life weren't broadcast this year) and will neutralize the positive RPI effect.
