Maybe, but couldn't one say that hiring more teachers to reduce class size may contribute to the larger increase in administration??

And isn't that a good thing? Smaller class sizes? Nothing's perfect.. a teacher could teach a class of 60 and be great. A teacher can teach a class of 10 and suck.

It is what it is..

It's become a kind of racket and all of those added layers of bureaucracy don't yield results in far too many cases.

This is the real reason we need vouchers. Tie the money to the kids and force the schools to compete.

Indeed.

Its a day care for kids, a job creator for adults.

We do not get our money's worth from public education in any way.

I found the problem... and it isn't just in the public school systems, public colleges and universities are becoming a joke as well...

Anyone really interested should look up the cost expenditure per student in China and the results they achieve there, for direct comparison.

I'm not one to praise Chini, but there are certainly things that they do right.

Meanwhile, the US spends more per child than anyone, and our results are middle-of-the-pack among everyone, and declining more and more with every passing year. Most 16 year old Asian students are proficient in advanced trigonometry. Most 12th graders in the US struggle with basic algebra.

We're certainly very good at educating our youth on how to effectively spray entire city blocks with bullets while only hitting innocent bystanders, though!

In major school districts like Los Angeles, their enrollment continues to decline to record levels, but they have added employees and are bloated with teachers and administration. No reduction in taxes, so they are paid more for less.

Outside of the US, they are typically not having to contend with one demographic that drags pretty much all others down...

Virtually all government programs are "jobs" programs. The military certainly is. Local and state jobs, from the guys mowing the roadside to the lady collecting the water bill, are jobs programs.

City governments are probably more bloated than the federal government, relative to their size.

I bet if you adjust education results in the US to account for parent involvement, the kids who score the highest also have 2 parents in the home who are committed to helping their child learn daily.

This is why more money continues to not solve the problem. There are plenty of kids failing out of prestigious private schools because their parents don’t care at all about their education

Eh, some of the bigger ones maybe but they all have to balance their budgets with the money they take in... The federal government does not...

Taxation is theft. Eliminate taxes and this problem solves itself.

Look at the first chart again. They're not hiring more teachers. The green line for teachers is the same as the blue line for students. That means the ratio is the same. The explosion of hires is in administrative staff in the school office and the central office.

Except the green line and the blue line have the same growth. It looks to me like they’re not hiring more teachers.

More teachers equals smaller classes, and it still isn’t enough because many American students flat out suck and have zero respect. Until that changes, it really doesn’t matter what programs are passed including vouchers

In fairness, the increase in education administrative requirements increases administrative bloat.

I don’t think the bloat is defensible. But it’s one of the drivers of the bloat.

Education in this country would be cheaper if one housewife agreed to teach 6-7 kid in her home and parents paid her directly.

It would also most likely improve dramatically.
