Jackson, only 54% passed.
So if you take away Jackson, the rest of Mississippi is actually a pretty solid state.

If the numbers for the Delta are significantly better than Jackson, that says a lot.

Well, it has to be banned now. This is racist.

Explain to me why you insist on educating people and wasting time trying to get them to read, when they will only perpetuate generational living on welfare. You can save on taxes for education. Just do it.
I wonder what their cost per student is versus schools in other districts/states.
Once again, the residents there get exactly what they voted for.

Inexcusable and it has nothing to do with schools. If you make your kid read to you for ten minutes a day they will not have ANY problems with the state minimum s.
This would imply parental responsibility. This is a foreign concept to most democrat jackson residents.

There are a handful of places in Mississippi that are truly awesome. The rest of the state brings them down.
I am currently sitting in a French restaurant on the water in a Jackson suburb. It is beautiful. Healthy beautiful people all around. Business men doing business. Moms and babies taking walks. You would think you are in any upscale area of a major metropolis.
Five miles from me is Jackson, which gives nothing back to this area. Everything Madison has earned is on its own.

This year's results are out.
In Jackson, only 54% passed. Four schools had 60%+ failure rate. One school had a 78% failure rate.
I wonder what the demographics of those four schools are? And I also wonder what the predominant politics of those institutions might be?
I don't really wonder. I know without even feeling the need to hypothesize. Frankly, it saddens and disgusts me.

I’m surprised it is that high.
20-30% reading proficiency on grade level is kind of de rigeur for city schools.

Half the people in this nation dont value education, nor do they care if you value their education.
We've got to stop focusing on the low achievers and let them fail.

Tennessee is doing something like this. Summer school became a thing for some students last year. I’m proud of Mississippi for leading the way.

It's obvious they're not reading at home. Neither mom nor dad is reading with them. I think their only hope is to have volunteers come in and read with these kids after lunch, even if they have to keep them until 5.
I bet their math skills are just as bad.

oesn't really matter. If you can't get out of third grade, you aren't graduating.
They'll just continue to pass them anyway... Like they already do. Not doing so and expecting them to earn a passing grade would be "racist."

If kids fail in school, the amount of money taxpayers wasted on them that year should be deducted from their single mom's welfare checks. If you're not using the free money to improve your station in life, then it should be taken away and paid back.

we don’t properly educate our children they will become dependent upon the state, and some people see a move in this direction as progress.
Parents should educate their children. We should keep the gment as far away as possible from teaching our kids. I'd rather kids not know anything than be indoctrinated to worship the state. We have 3 year old saying the pledge daily, Goebels would be impressed by that.

This is how public education works.
If youre a white kid, its on you and your parents to learn.
If youre a black kid, its on the school for you to learn and white peoples fault if you dont.

You have to teach the parents to read first.
