The "Mississippi Miracle," Mississippi's rise from 50th in education to 23rd, has been powered by legislation that requires all third graders to pass a grade level reading test before advancing to fourth grade.

This year's results are out.

In Jackson, only 54% passed. Four schools had 60%+ failure rate. One school had a 78% failure rate.

I’m surprised it is that high.

Jackson is a city that aspires to be third world.

This is great news for Mississippi, as well as the country.

We need far fewer DEI hires being passed on to the next grade for no reason.

If we don’t properly educate our children they will become dependent upon the state, and some people see a move in this direction as progress.

Keep this in mind when you hear cries to make the standards lower because racism.

Never gonna happen. They will vote in their corrupt inept politicians who will hook up friends and family instead of holding anyone accountable.

Doesn't really matter. If you can't get out of third grade, you aren't graduating. Hard to be a DEI hire without a high school diploma.

Just started reading 'Origins of Woke' by Richard Hanania and he explains the left's solutions in chapter 1.

The differences in achievement between whites and blacks are due to racism. Therefore, the difference in test scores is due to racism. The solution is to ban tests.
He also links this to inequalities between men and women. They can't be fixed with abolishing tests. So, we must abolish genders.

Explain to me why you insist on educating people and wasting time trying to get them to read, when they will only perpetuate generational living on welfare.

You can save on taxes for education. Just do it.

Makes it sound like gaming the system, but they do intensive remediation on those students. They do eventually pass the exam. It isn't like they never progress past third grade.

Inexcusable and it has nothing to do with schools.

If you make your kid read to you for ten minutes a day they will not have ANY problems with the state minimum s.

At one time Democrats made it illegal to teach blacks to read and write.

Some traditions seem to live on I guess.

Jackson is probably better off than Los Angeles.

quote:

Scores of students attending LAUSD schools are attaining A's, B's, and C's despite failing to meet grade-level benchmarks—a trend that bucks the district's own policies, which require a C grade only when the student "understands state standards."

Jackson’s demographics are heavily black.

LAUSD’s numbers are likely spiked high for immigrants from Asia and south of the border, meaning they are ESL (English as a Second Language) students.

Ebonics doesn’t qualify for ESL no matter what Oakland wants to claim.

Well, obviously, all they need is more money in Jackson to address the problem... If whitey wasn't keeping Jackson down it would be the Wakanda of this continent...

You don’t understand Jackson. When I moved there in 2006 I heard the Chief of Police speak and was astounded. Made me look into her background. She had a GED and was a former 911 operator before she was promoted to Chief via the Kamala strategy.

Just change the name to Port-au-Pearl and get it over with.
