And last summer in Louisiana we broke a record set 100 years prior.

Just reality.

The worst thing to come out of the COVID pandemic is people who just started paying attention thinking everything started due to COVID.

Imagine taking my post seriously enough to make that "correction"

No shite that phrase existed before Covid. Its prevalence and constant overuse did not.

I do have to agree that if sesspools like India and China didn't throw 46 billions tons of trash in the fricking oceans every year and didn't smog up the atmosphere, it wouldn't be as bad as it is.

This will be my 45th summer spent in Louisiana, and guess what?

It has been fricking hot for every single one of them.

Exactly, I actually think it's been pretty mild so far. The mornings and nights have been pretty cool. People just believe whatever the news tells them

Nice deflection

There was a freaking sitcom with that name almost a decade before that, I remember it being used a lot after the 2008ish financial crisis. COVID had a major impact on society so it makes sense it was used quite a bit for a time but I rarely hear it now. Admittedly, that may be because I get tired of listening to all the talking heads these days, kinda turning into a "get off my lawn" kinda guy.

It's not uncommon for it to be pretty hot in late May. That doesn't mean we'll have an unusually hot July or August.

If we killed off 3/4ths of the Earth’s population and returned to an 18th Century standard of living would there be a meaningful change in the course of the Earth’s climate? Serious question.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people choose to live in a subtropical climate and bitch about the heat.

Working in the bitter cold is far worse than the heat in every conceivable way on man and machine. If you're working in a climate controlled cubicle you're not going to understand that because it's impossible for your soft hands to acclimate.

We're coming up on the last 10 days of May, if you're familiar with the seasonal characteristics of our subtropical climate , you'd know that it's not unusual for June to be one of the most brutal months because we're getting summer heat but it's still raining, which creates sauna-like conditions.

May heat is not a good predictor for whether the summer will be extra hot or not. Last year was an outlier for the heat. I expect this summer to be near normal. All that said it will still suck.

Cool. But last year was hotter than normal. It’s ok to just say that

Yep. June through September suck every year, some more than others, but there's a 100% chance of suckage.

I completely forgot about people denying that it was an unusually hot and brutal summer. So weird

at what rate does this normally happen sans any major ecological catastrophes like large volcanos or asteroids?

How long did it take to warm up from our last ice age? 10k years? Seems like we might be on a fast-track.

How did the overall summer of that specific year compare to our overall summer last year? I'm going to guess, and could be wrong, that they had a temporary spike in temp and didn't have nearly 3 months of 100+ days.

You realize that within recorded history it has been warmer than it is now, right? Ever heard of the Medieval Warm Period?
