Even 15 years ago when I was going to Raleigh regularly, that area didn't feel very Southern. It's full of transplants.

Some 70% of residents of Wake county (not including students) were born outside of NC. That’s a fairly staggering percentage.

I last lived in Raleigh 5 years ago. I heard way more Yankee/Northern accents than Southern accents at work.
