My brother is getting a job up there and tells me there are tons of opportunities. I need a change and I'm considering moving. Carolina baws, tell me what's what.

Was there last week for work M-Fr. College town. Tons of restaurants and bars. Tons of high end apartment buildings. Lots of tech jobs. Good looking women all over the place.
Downtown is hood adjacent much like NOLA. I noted several groups of roving urban Yutes later in the evenings. Raleigh police seem to have a handle on it downtown though. They were all over the place.

I've spent a fair amount of time in Carey for work. At the time it was voted the safest city in America multiple years in a row. Its absolutely beautiful up there. Its a suburb of Raleigh, about a 20 min drive

I just came back from Asheville and enjoyed it tremendously. There are so many great spots in that state. If my youngest daughter ends up there as I expect, I’m likely to follow.

Lot of free museums
Multiple colleges and universities, so the area doesn't feel boring.
Airport has a lot of options if you need to get away
Biscuitville is better than Bojangles
Good healthcare system
Cons are the massive population growth and it doesn't really feel like the south anymore (if southern is what you're looking for). Redfin data suggests the top 3 origins of people coming to Raleigh are NYC, DC, and San Francisco. Also home affordability. The median home sales price is $425,000 in Raleigh, up 60% in the past 5 years.

It’s booming in a good way. I have a lot of clients in that area and was there a few months ago. Can’t go wrong with that area.

Charlotte is great as well. In terms of local economies and opportunity, they are both worth taking a look at.

Full disclosure, I've never been there. But friends have and said it was very nice. I don't recall reading it's a place to avoid as well. When your brother gets settled, spring for a plane ticket and check it out. YOLO.

I've been there for work probably 15 times but not since about 2012. I always enjoyed the area but I'm sure it's grown/changed since I've been.
We almost moved there in 2005 but my wife killed the deal at the last minute because she was pregnant.
It's 2 hrs from the beach and 2 hrs from the mountains and you get 4 seasons.

It’s about 15 years behind Charlotte. Not saying that’s a bad thing but Raleigh is a nice mid sized city

Nice, upscale, expensive and kind of snooty….especially around Cary and the RTP.

I was there a few weeks ago. Had several great meals in Raleigh and Durham seems really nice. My daughter is moving there.

How is the cost of living out there? I could use a change of scenery too.

Louisiana transplant in Durham right now.
You will be flooded with much more opportunity than louisiana. You will also die from boredom.

NC is great. Coming from LA you'll think you moved to Beverly Hills.

It ain’t Louisiana. You will likely find the people there introverted and somewhat cold.
It’s kind of Southern but not warmly so.
That’s my take. YMMV.

Great place, I'm looking forward to moving back.

Beautiful city in a beautiful state.
I lived around 4 years in this area. Good weather, relaxed area, things to do and a great place for a family imo.
Im considering moving back to NC or SC when I retire. Loved the Carolinas.

I enjoy Duke sports so for that reason alone I would like it.
No MLB sadly but the Durham bulls are a pretty historic AAA team.
Not too far from the mountains and the beach as said before.
I like where I’m at in Texas but if I was from somewhere I hated it would definitely be on my list
