In the movie, Santa actually does exist the whole time. Kids were getting presents from “Santa” the whole time.

So either the parents bought them and Santa didn’t do shite, or the parents didn’t buy them, Santa was putting them under the tree the whole time, and the parents are like, “well I guess these presents just appeared.”

Interesting thoughts this early.

As an adult there are parts I now appreciate that I didn’t as a kid.

The shrink joke.

The reference to Osso Buck (had no clue what that was as a kid).

And others.

yeah this seemingly occurs in lots of "santa is real" movies. i feel like in elf, the adults don't believe, either, even though santa is real.

the main explanation that i go with is that it's magic and part of the magic is that it actually occurs and the parents/adults think they are responsible or don't even realize what is happening.

That thought never crossed my mind and is a great plot hole in so many Christmas movies that involve Santa. Maybe, dad just assumed mom always bought them, and mom assumed dad did and no one ever addressed it?

In my house if it happened, I would just assume my wife bought the presents. Of course, we'd figure it out because she would give me shite for getting the kids a gift and not telling her. She already thinks we buy too many gifts; even though she is the one that does all of the shopping.

The parents are all so strung out on drugs and self absorbed they don’t even notice the extra gifts.

Isn’t that kind of the point? To try and keep Santa going tor kids in a world where they are told he doesn’t exist as soon as they get to school?

I was always under the impression that the purpose of a Christmas movie was to reinforce the belief in Santa Claus to help parents keep it going for as long as possible

Doesn't this apply to literally every movie in which Santa is real (but otherwise set in the real world)?

You can pull on that thread in a LOT of movies.

unfortunately, for any Santa movie to be real you have to accept the premise he's literally as powerful as God, which is hard to grasp.

i believe it was mentioned santa always leaves you a gift so they arent all from your parents, or something along those lines.

i think bernard was answering the kids questions in santa clause 1 when it was mentioned

It’s plausible.

Santa just brings ONE thing, but parents buy so much shite they forget and only the kid knows that gift is from Santa.
