I bet this guy can dodge a wrench.

We did army ball. You get hit you drop where you are. If a teammate can drag you back to the wall without getting hit you come back to life. Game ended when one team had no live players.

I can still hear the ping of a hit.

We found out if you got hit early before they wamed up it hurt less.

I don't really remember those red rubber balls hurting pretty much no matter how hard they were thrown. Maybe I just don't remember.

You think?

I'd say almost all coaches back in the day were bored assholes. Almost every one I personally came across, anyway. And that probably hasn't changed into 2024.

We played “in-line dodgeball “
If you got hit, you went to a line behind the opponents, so you had throwers in front and behind you, with 2 balls in play

Paraphrasing the great Toots O'Houlihan

If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.

The game is all about humiliation and degradation!

Toots was one of the greats.

We had a kid in our class who was very non-athletic, but he was a savant at dodging the ball in dodgeball.

I don't ever want to see it be played in person or school. If adults want to do it they can make their own choices.

Help me understand what made you believe your revulsion to dodgeball holds any importance to anyone other than yourself.

Dodgeball is actually a pretty good game for everyone. Big guys can throw, small guys can dodge.

I wasn't as good at dodging baseballs. Hated baseball from getting hit all the time by kids before they could control their pitches.

The only difference was, the standard rule of team with last person wins, but they also put a 2 liter soda bottle at the back of each side and you could automatically win if you knocked the other teams bottle over first.

We had multiple 2 liter bottles and a bowling pin.

If you knock down the pin all your eliminated players come back into the game.

If you knock down all the bottles you win.

Without reading the thread, I assume there are at least 10 posts talking about how much they love queers.

When the coaches were hungover we’d play on the full basketball court. If someone hit a 3 the whole team got back in. Epic games that lasted forever.

We use it as team bonding at the end of each season. We have a fence company that allows us to use their 10 foot chain link fences for free. Then we put cord lights around the top, bottom, and corners to light them up and dim the lights in the gym. It's pretty freaking awesome.

I could see me coming home crying to my dad about somebody hit me too hard in dodge ball.

He would have been mad at me for not doing anything at school and whining to him.

My dad would get pissed at me and ask me if I had troubles understanding the rules of the game. The 1st rule is in the title of the game

I always found dodgeball to be an equalizer. I was a small dweeb, but I could hang with the bullies in dodgeball. Just gotta be smart about it and pick your battles.

I wasn't very big either, but I could dodge, was quick, and I taught myself to catch most anything. The big guys leave you alone once you show them that you can catch their stuff.

Ours was similar but each team had a medic with a rolling board that could go get a hit player and then drag them back across so they could re-enter. You couldn't get someone out that was on the rolling board, but if you hit the medic while he was dragging someone then they were out and the team no longer had a medic. The medic couldn't throw though, so picking your medic was always strategic, and so was going after the other team's medic.
