pain and disappointment are great character builders

That goes for all of us

THIS type attitude is the main problem with our kids today!!

I could see me coming home crying to my dad about somebody hit me too hard in dodge ball.

He would have been mad at me for not doing anything at school and whining to him.

We played Russian Roulette. Eventually everyone died.

We called it WarBall too, and it was great fun. The coaches would sometimes call a free-for-all, in which there were no boundary lines. and scores would be settled. Picking on one kid during a free-for-all is what ended the game when I was in the 9th grade.

We called it Killball too. It was the modern day dodgeball. Try playing with Shawn Burks (true LSU fans know who that is). He was a beast in middle school

We went to the same schools in Central. The Burks family lived down the street. I went to school with younger brother, Greg.

In grade school, I broke a finger playing Bombardment and I turned out ok. I also broke a finger in a skiing accident, but wouldn't think of banning skiing.

I was masterful at dodging dodgeballs when I was a kid.

Man, childhood was fun as shite.

We played dodgeball, kickball, and red rover, and chase a ton at recess in elementary school.

I had a crush on Leslie but I was scared to death of Shawn. I was a skinny kid so I didn't have much of a shot. I am back in Central and lo and behold, I am engaged to a girl I went to middle school with.

I guess I may have to change my screen name

We called this bomb ball. There were a couple of guys who would always seem to take charge and be the ones throwing the ball at the guys up against the wall. We used volleyballs and it was pretty close range. Those frickers hurt, but as a skinny kid I feel like it probably made me a little stronger mentally like others have said. This was in the 80's and I just can't imagine this game would be allowed these days.

There was this one kid who had super thick coke bottle glasses and legitimately was partially blind I think. One of their tricks was to slowly throw one ball at him (they would lob it) so he would try to catch it and another kid would nail him in the face with a different ball why he was distracted trying to catch the slow ball. It was brutal....

I always found dodgeball to be an equalizer. I was a small dweeb, but I could hang with the bullies in dodgeball. Just gotta be smart about it and pick your battles.

Ours was called battleball.
The basketball gym also had volleyball lines on it. Each team couldn't cross half court to start, but then the teacher would call out the different lines, blue line(avolleyball line), 3 point line, foul line, another blue line, all the way to the baseline. Teams were able to advance up to those lines.

A tried & true tactic in dodgeball. Any distraction could turn into a broken nose.

A big reason why society is as fricked up as it is today is the decided absence of old school "bullying" for the last 25-30 years.

What about the game butts-up or wall-ball? You knew pain when a tennis ball hit you in the lower back or back of the knee-cap.

Same.

Sadly, most of the balls we used in school were half deflated
