It's good, certainly some of the better/best when they are on, but I've also had it from there and it just be standard run of the mill fried catfish.
Port au Prince

Paul Allen would disagree
No doubt he would. Trannies know little to nothing about fried catfish.

No it's not swai/basa.
I was in there a couple months back and was asking Ken how his fish has always been so consistant. Per KCC, he has purchased USA farm raised from the same supplier for 30+ years, and the same for the fish fry they use.
The fish fry is his/family recipe and they have a company out of the NOLA area mix it for them and they get it in 55 gallon drum size orders so that it is consistant day to day.

Fish House in Sterlington. Very good whole fish this evening. Cornmeal coating. Very crisp.and their boiled crawfish are fantastic.

Thin and crispy catfish, I’ve yet to eat better fried fish anywhere else. It’s Roy’s by a mile.

In all seriousness, is this a real place? I’m less than 30 miles away and have never heard of it.
Been there for as long as I can recall, circa late 80s.

Middendorf’s has almost zero seasoning or spices. Can’t make any top list in Louisiana like that.

Trudys in Kraemer is what Spahrs use to be. You get a pile of wild caught Lake Des Allemands catfish.

... They have the location on Claiborne, as well as a spot off Lakeshore on Cross Lake in Shreveport.
The Cross Lake location has been replaced by Orlandeaux's Cross Lake Cafe, a soul food place that serves great food. It's so great that I no longer go due to long waits for a table.
Johnny's Catfish in west Shreveport is solid. Good food, service, and prices.
Southfield Grill in Shreveport serves great catfish on Fridays. I had some yesterday. The two huge fillets were piping hot when they hit the table, and due to being so thick stayed that way until the last bite.
Porky's Smokehouse in Marshall, TX is not far from I-20 and serves fantastic catfish. You may be puzzled by the seemingly high price on the menu for a one or two fillet meal, but look at the plates coming out. One fillet is the whole side of a big catfish, cut into two pieces, so you get a lot more than it sounds like. The one fillet meal is plenty for most folks.

Roy's is fantastic for fried catfish, and their stuffed shrimp is good as well.
Only wish I could get a beer in that place. I enjoy iced tea, but sometimes a cold beer just hits the spot better with that delicious fried seafood.

Another very strong contender in Louisiana. Always have to stop in for a bloody for the road, either in Des Allemands on the way to NOLA or Galliano on the way down to Grand Isle.
I'll usually skip the catfish on the way now to GI, as I anticipate catching specks that night.

In Dallas or Houston or San Antonio, there’s no better catfish than Pappadeaux.
Are you counting the suburbs of those cities?
Because if so, I'm going to greatly disagree. And I'll probably disagree inside of Houston as well.

In Louisiana, another one people will hate on, but Ralph and Cackoo’s is legit, baw. Best in the Shreveport metro area
Give me the catfish at Blind Tiger in Shreveport over Ralph and Cackoos.

The best catfish in East Texas is at Clear Springs in Nacogdoches
The original Clear Springs in New Braunfels is legit too. It was a must-stop on river trips back in the day.
The fried catfish at the Midland location (only location I've eaten at) is legit too. Every time I'm out there, it's usually on my list for lunch or dinner.

I've been eating Spahrs since the mid-90s, and still love it
