I like Roy’s Catfish in Kinder, La. Their fried catfish is good as well as their salad bar with 20+ toppings.

Larry’s Catfish in Itta Bena and it’s really not close

I’m somewhat of a catfish guru. So I do have some authority when it comes to catfish.
The best catfish can be ruint by adding dill relish, or otherwise bad tartar sauce. The best catfish in Texas I’d have to separate by location, because there are many good spots. In Dallas or Houston or San Antonio, there’s no better catfish than Pappadeaux. I know many will hate, but it’s simply flat out true. The best catfish in central texas is a place called catfish parlour. The best catfish in East Texas is at Clear Springs in Nacogdoches and second best is at big pines lodge in Uncertain. I’m not too sure if west Texans eat catfish or not, but I wouldn’t suggest ordering off any menu west of Ft. Worth.
In Louisiana, another one people will hate on, but Ralph and Cackoo’s is legit, baw. Best in the Shreveport metro area. The best catfish in New Orleans is a little place called Hi Hat, they also have whole fried okra which is among the best I’ve had anywhere.

My favorite was always my grandparents who had a farm on the Yazoo River in the Mississippi Delta. Catfish was life. Some of my fondest memories was setting up trot lines in the creek near the river when he knew the water was about to rise. Used to regularly catch 3ft-ers+ like it was nothing.

I don't know why anyone would go to a restaurant to eat catfish.

The original Clear Springs in New Braunfels is legit too. It was a must-stop on river trips back in the day.

Middendorf's
I'm gonna buck the system and say Middendorf's is way overrated. It's too thin
quote:I agree. The original location was awesome.
Give me Catfish Charlie's. Hammond location used to be the GOAT.
One of the best places in the state is probably one most people have never heard of - The Cajun Catfish House in Pineville.

Like the Alma location of The Catfish Hole. Never eaten at the one in Fayetteville so don't know how they compare.

There will be several answers and several pages, but you can go ahead and shut the thread down now. This is the way.
Stopped in 2-3 months ago, not expecting much since the place was over run by church goers on Sunday afternoon & I was blown away- by the whole experience the service to the food and how we were all n and out during quickly with it packed.

Monroe has excellent catfish with Catfish Cabin,Warehouse, and Catfish Charlie’s. Mohawk and Scott’s run great fryers, too.

Crawford's Restaurant just across Perkins where Essen changes to Staring. Big Ken Catfish Crawfish Crawford does it up perfect. You will never get a piece of catfish with the brown, nasty stuff on it, they trim every piece.
