The UFL has been very entertaining

With the two leagues merged, less teams competing for the better talent, and a couple of seasons under their belts, the games have been a pretty high quality this season. I've enjoyed having the option to watch football this Spring. The league is still challenged with low attendance with the exception of St Louis. I'm not sure how to fix that. Even in the smaller city markets like Birmingham there are lots of local sport options this time of year with all the minor league teams. Outside of St Louis, 10,000 to 14,000 seems to be the attendance range for the better teams and around 6,000 to 10,000 for the less successful teams. I heard a reporter state that the average viewership is about double what it was last year. The number of viewers for some of the big games is below expectations, but the average viewership has increased from around 300K to 600K per the reporter.
I hope the league lasts, is able to boost attendance and expand to a few more teams. Which cities would fare the best? Large cities with more fans to sway or more mid-size cities that don't have NFL teams? As far as mid-size cities, I would have expected Memphis to do better, so maybe mid-size isn't the answer. Maybe stay with the same 8 teams a couple of more seasons?

I have a hard enough time watching the NFL these days with the two hand touch rules and ads.

I like it but I just like the NBA better. NBA is still in prime during UFL season. I'm going to watch NBA and maybe catch a UFL game once every 2-3 weeks. Just not a great product when you like to watch elite sports. Not their fault but they're not the NFL.

Back to the UFL- it can't match the old USFL of the 80's. Back then, we had a chance to see legit superstar talent play spring ball- the USFL all-star team could probably beat the NFL allstars in a head to head matchup. Now, it's a bunch of guys who might make the practice squad of an NFL team.

I’d like to watch but unlike Paramount+ or Peacock you can’t watch live sports on Hulu without paying a lot more. I live to far away for these new digital antennas to work worth a shite unlike when a 20 foot antenna could pick up BR and NO stations.

The viewership has been about the same outside of week 1. Maybe marginally higher.
Last year was about 700-850k per game. This season has been more steadily in the 800-875k range.

There are MANY players in the UFL that could easily be on a 53 man NFL roster if given the chance. Many have been on a roster. Hoping the UFL continues to grow, I think it’s a win-win for everybody. Really good talent this year.

I feel the league made a mistake in branding. Both the USFL and XFL were bigger name brands than the forgettable "UFL." I suppose it doesn't make much of a difference in the big picture, though.

I've really been enjoying spring football since they brought it back. I hate this time of year because as a Cubs fan we are just mediocre since winning it all. We can never beat the Brewers either.
TV really sucks this time of year too, so I'm loving the UFL. It's high quality football, anyone who says otherwise hasn't watch enough or is just hating.

I think you can throw out Memphis's attendance numbers. The Liberty Bowl is a dump and Memphians have been bitter since the 1990s when they didn't get an NFL expansion team, the Oilers/Titans used them as a rest stop for not even one full season, and the CFL and XFL1.0 single seasons with a pro team in Memphis.
Plus, no one wants to be around the Liberty Bowl area after say 6PM.
I think that the sustainable model for a spring football league is to be located in a major metro area as opposed to mid-sized markets like Memphis and San Antonio. At the end of the day, they need asses in seats buying concessions and buying merchandise.
St. Louis could be an exception since there is no one holding on to their Rams or Cardinals to move back.

The UFL (Battlehawks) has been a nice distraction from the shitshow across town. Home or away, a STL football team will be playing a postseason game for the first time since the Falcons beat the Rams in 2004.

MLS stadiums would be perfect for this league and really help, IMO. But with MLS being in season it makes no sense to share a stadium with football.

Hopefully theyre willing to be patient with it. I think if they give it some time and stay in their lane it can be successful. I feel like a lot of the issues with these leagues is they only really "try" for a year or two and then bail.
