Would the meat packers even be the ones actually getting the tip?
Probably the owners pocketing the money honestly

I only tip if I sit down to eat, someone brings me a menu and takes my order and brings my food. I also tip the girl that cuts my hair.
I don't tip people for doing their normal job, although a few months ago I tipped the guy that changed out my windshield. I thought his service amd communication was impeccabl, he well deserved it over someone who hands me food over a counter.

I want to leave a tip for the people putting the meat into the containers and said 10% is normal without being asked. I asked if I could choose to make that decision when I picked up the containers and they said yes.
I would ask what they are paid.
If it’s anything more than $10, they can shove that tip
up their asses

Title says gray area- i disagree. Nothing gray about it. Tipping is ridiculous in this situation. Totally unprofessional to solicit a tip.

Was it a deal like ‘tip us 10% and you get extra meat’ kinda thing?

It shouldn’t be a percentage at that point
I kind of feel this way about retail delivery. Hypothetically, I shouldn’t have to tip more for 1 bag worth $1000 vs. 1 bag worth $20.

If the food was $2,200 but a tip was never mentioned, would you have still ordered it?

Only tip for pizza deliveries, when eating in a restaurant, and the people that cut my hair. Usually tip 25-30% unless I get poor service.
Same for the wrecker dude who picked up my disabled vehicle and didn’t mess it up.
Like a cash $100 tip and a “thanks”.
Porters, concierge folks, and bell men (etc) at hotels also are tipped.
I know I've tipped other folks in different situations but can’t recall the specifics.
To the OP’s situation, I probably wouldn’t have elected to add the tip.

An I wrong here? OT let me know what I should do

Went to Atomic Burger on Vets today. Walked up to lady at cash register and she said "I only do the drive thru" and then pointed at the touchscreen where you put in your own order. Of course, the people with me wanted certain things on their burgers and extra sauces. Neither of which are an option in the choices. Finally figured out there is a NOTES section and you have to type all this in one a giant touchscreen. Took several minutes. Lady is standing at her register the whole time with her headset on and staring at her phone.
Finally get all my order keyed in and... boom goes the tip screen with a 25% suggested gratuity. Couldn't locate the NO TIP option so I ended up doing Custom Tip and then selecting $0.00. Ruined my lunch it pissed me off so bad.

Just pizza? Don’t tip the other delivery drivers (Grubhub etc)?

I just refuse everything except the typical bullshite tipping at restaurants. That one has a point, reward good service. These people are making fortunes now. I don't use door dash, and im not tipping anyone else.
We're literally having a massive culture movement to pay businesses their employers wages. This is one of the most hilarious examples of end stage capitalism. Guilting consumers into paying every aspect of the business so they get every stinking penny they can.

Why do the people putting meat in a box deserve a tip? That’s laughable
Posted on 5/19/24 at 8:49 pm to Old Sarge
If I order standing up, I’m not tipping.

Another thread about tipping, this one really is a gray area
How is this a gray area at all? If you’re buying something retail or wholesale, in what way would tipping enter the equation? Simply because it’s purchasing food?
As ridiculous as tipping requests have become, this one is off the charts bad IMO. And the fact that it was solicited with a “recommended” normal amount is laughable and would turn me off enough to report it if I had any contact with a manager or similar type of level with the company.

I don't use other delivery services outside of pizza. Door dash and uber eats nearly double the price of food we order

This is not a gray area. The people putting meat in containers get a paycheck which ought to be sufficient. Next thing you know people will want a tip for breathing in and out.

Did you pre-pay for the order? If not, I would have left it right there, and gone else where.

If he had a clear option to get the same food for $2000? Of course he wouldn’t have.
