They are getting the money for free. The SNAP (food stamp) allotment for a single individual (crackhead) is $2,430 in SNAP benefits, but since that's on a regulated card you can't buy crack with it. You can buy 405 cases, or 16,200 bottles, of water with that. That comes out to $162 in crack-buying dollars.
Crackheads are highly motivated to find the easiest way to get money. While it's not the most savvy fiscal move, it gives them a fairly efficient method to launder SNAP money into crack.

So I have six seconds of a voice, without evidence, claiming they bought bottles of water with food stamps intending to pour them out and get money for recycling. I have two seconds of a woman sitting in a vehicle saying they dumped them out because they “were old, super old”.
Considering it would probably require more in gas to drive that vehicle to a recycling facility that would pay you for it, and considering reselling them would make orders of magnitude more money, why are we automatically believing the disembodied six seconds when all we can see is a puddle of water?

Handling 405 cases of water and then emptying 16,200 bottles is a lot of freaking work. But I guess they have all the time in the world.

The pack costs 9.36. You pay the deposit when you make a purchase so you can redeem what you already paid.
There’s no state tax in Oregon.

Annual $29,160
Monthly $2,430
Weekly $565
The $2,430 is the maximum monthly income a single person can make and qualify for benefits
The actual food stamp amount has to be calculated but depending on a number of factors it’s not anywhere near $2,430/month. Probably less than $300/month.
I ran the SNAP calculator in the link and the benefit was $23 to $291/month for a 1 person household.

People on food stamps don’t generally make good decisions when it comes to things like money, or life in general for that matter. If they did, then they wouldn’t be on food stamps.

That is why there are many people selling common house hold cleaning products on facebook everyday. You will see Dawn, Laundry detergent, all kinda crap in like a bundle sold for $25. It's just people buying shite with their SNAP card and then selling it for cash to suckers locally.

I know of someone (not a friend) who runs a food truck. He would pay pennies on the dollar for people's food stamp cards and then go buy all the fajita meat, chicken, onions, peppers, drinks, etc. he could for his business.

At .05 per bottle a 24-pack of water would bring back 1.20. If it cost $3.00, that’s about a 30-percent return.
On the old wait around the check out and offer to buy someone’s groceries in exchange for cash, it’s usually .60 on the dollar.
I’m guess that this happens sometimes, but given the fact they have to put in so much more effort for half the return, I really doubt the veracity of the report.
