Gus, Wildcat, ElDorado, and Memorial Park seem to stay in good shape year round.

25 miles from Downtown brings in Blackhorse and Meadowbrook Farms.

Houston metro is really hurting for public golf now. 25 years ago it was totally different.

Blackhorse

As someone that lives minutes from here, I would not recommend driving 30 minutes to pay $150 on the weekend here. While it is probably in the upper echelon of public courses in Houston, it is not $150 good. I can't really argue with them; they have people on the course every time I pass, but the price has gotten out of control. Some member told me that the memberships are reasonable, though. I probably have a couple more years before it makes sense for me, time-wise, to look into that, though.

25 miles from H-town metro gets you danger close to the Wilderness in Lake Jackson. I really love that course outside of the relentless mosquitos after rain.
