Spielman & Andolsek had words at coin toss - got heated
They ended up playing together on Lions and being good friends.
Great game

I was there, 2nd year at LSU

I worked with one of the back judges who worked the game. There was a second half fumble call that went against us (no replay back then) when I asked him about it the next week he said- “yea we missed that one.” Would not have been a tie if they got call correct.
Holy crap I forgot about that. It was the last play of the 3rd quarter I believe. Deep in OSU territory as well. They replayed it and Musburger even said “LSU should’ve had the ball goin in” (into the 4th quarter). DEFINITELY a bad miss by the refs.

I think he and Spielman got into it.
They did. Funny thing is they became best friends up until Eric’s death. Both played for Detroit.

Didn't help Harvey Williams ran his mouth off
Harvey definitely was a confident dude. But he did put Spielman on his arse late in the game on a 3rd and short. The block sprung Victor Jones for a 1st. Put LSU in position for the game winning FG. Retarded coaching prevented that.

I was there in the south end zone in the second row. I remember Andolsek and Speilman getting into it at the coin toss.
Hot as a mother fricker it was!

Actually Eric Andolsek and Chris Spielman exchanged some pleasant conversation and some spit!! That set the tone. Hot day and hot tempers. South Endzone amongst lots of Buckeyes!!

I was 20 and got sunburnt on the east side of the field.
I remember Eric Andolsek and Chris Spielmsn almost got into a fight during the coin flip. They would up bring best friends when they both got drafted by the Lions

My BIL was married to Eric’s sister

No mention of the brain fart by the grounds crew? They watered the field the morning before the game creating a slippery field. Sammy Martin slipped on a cut that would have been a probable kickoff return TD. Harvey slipped on what would have been a long run as well.

I was living in VA Beach also then (as I am now). If you remember, ABC had regional coverage as usual, and were probably showing Duke/Wake Forest or some BS instead of the tackle football game between us and Ohio State.
I remember late in the game, they went to the studio and the host said words to the effect: " LSU is up 13 late in Columbus, it looks like the Buckeyes are going down at home". The next thing I know, I see a final score flashing up that we had lost. I was sure it was a mistake. Remember, there was no Internet back then to keep up with current scores.

Hodson had an off day that day we should have won going away.

When big Ralph Norwood (RIP) got injured, the game changed. It was a classic. I had just started a new job and watched it with an Ohio St grad. I think we were both ok with a tie because neither one of us could afford to pay the bet.

Ohio was our nemesis for a couple years. Miami of Ohio actually beat us.

Loud, loud, loud.
Scoreboard when Tupa stepped away from center because he couldn't hear: "We're not loud yet."

That was a defensive battle like many games in the 80s
Spielman had like 20 tackles for Ohio st
