I despise it .. but I’m trying to understand it. To me, it’s a made up BS therapy world word.

I believe it’s a term women use bc most can’t stand to be wrong and don’t won’t men correcting and or debating them when they know the male count part has a valid point.

That’s my experience anyways.

Thoughts?
Opinions?

Well you're wrong right off the bat.

Wrong again.

Nobody likes to be wrong. Both men and women have been using it lately BUT they are mostly using it incorrectly which is the actual thing you should be annoyed at.

It is just lying. Which is always bad. So I call it lying.

No matter the term it is a shitty thing to do.

It's a succinct description of a legitimate set of actions that are prevalent in many relationships but is more frequently used in inaccurate contexts.

People gaslight me in business all the time. When they screw up or don't deliver on their obligations, they'll come out of the gate swinging. "You can't be mad at me....I'm mad at you." That kind of stuff.

It's a valid word.

In my experience it’s a term mostly used by women when they are losing an argument or debate

It's not just lying, it's manipulation meant to get the target to question themselves

That explains why it's so popular on the poliboard.

It is. But at the root, it is a lie.

I feel like all lies are bad

And if we are going the route of massive generalization like the OT is so fond of doing, when I think manipulation, I think men.

It is typically used by women who have made up their mind as to a set of facts and threat they are right- any attempt to present the actual truth is deemed “gaslighting”. In the event they are willing to view the actual other side of the facts they then resort to calling their version “my truth”. I.e., they are always right.

No, it's more than just lying.

Gaslighting is actively and consistently manipulating a person so that they start to question reality.

So if I forget to pay a bill on time and tell my wife I paid it and then run to phone to pay, that's just a simple lie.

However, if I forget to pay the bill and keep insisting to my wife that she told me SHE paid it even though I know she did not, that would be gaslighting.

Ok, but not all lies are attempts to gaslight so you're not actually saying anything relevant.

If I randomly tell you that I had sex with Sydney Sweeney last night that has nothing to do with an attempt at gaslighting.

I’ve seen it used by men when there is actual proof of the opposite of what they say. But the OT hates women and they are always wrong, so…

I guess I’ll try to do better.

It’s really stupid

I noticed chicks started saying it after it was constantly said on tik tok.

It’s basically adult women’s words like a 13 year old

They aren’t. But as much as gaslighting does in fact occur, these idiots will never accept it.

I’m posting for the ot here and as a woman I am automatically wrong unless it is in a horse racing thread. Not all lies are gaslighting, but all gaslighting is lying. Is that better?

I just wanted to say that I think lying sucks, and gaslighting falls into that category.
