I’ve got a portable Champion 10/8k that I would like to connect with an interlock kit on my panel. Recommendations in BR and what should I expect to pay? LINK

Isnt the interlock kit just like a metal plate so you don't backfeed?

I wanted to do this years ago and got cold feet.

Interlock kit will require the specific kit to your breaker panel.

You'll have to move some breakers.

The generator breaker to the twistlock outlet will need to be up top by the main for it to function.

I've installed a few for people. Depends on the outlet mounted box whether it hangs from the box via nipple and knockout or its conduit over from brick.

I install the plug/box with tapcon masonry screws and epoxy.

60-80 for the box and plug combo. Takes me like 2 hours once install starts depending on conduit run and length.

So I'd guess $100 for box and interlock. Wire is by the foot so that can get pricey. Used to be about $60 for the wire. $20 for the double breaker if it's a GE and not a square D or something high dollar.

$2 hours labor (its $135 hr here for a plumber right now... not sure about electrical. )

How far away is the plug in for the generator to your panel will be the main driver. Wire is priced per foot.

Line from panel to generator 3 feet. ETA: thanks for the details. I’ve watched several videos but I don’t do electrical except maybe replace a socket. A repair man died while repairing an A/C next door when I was a kid so I’ve always been wary.

If you are in doubt be safe. Get the professional. No shame in that ever. There are no second chances if you get hung up.

I wasn't trying to pressure you simply kind of giving you a rundown of what to expect.

Some people will use the eve of the house to keep the generator out of the weather.

Don't due that due to the exhaust...

You can build a little pvc cover with a tarp to place over it and zip tie it in place if you need. You can even make it to where it's collapsible.

Since it is portable, why not just get a heavy duty extension cord from generator to house thru a window with a Muti plug to various services. No worry about back feed, no worries about theft from your secure storage, easy set up.

What are you planning to do about voltage fluctuations causing a brownout?

Getting ready to do this myself all the supplies total about $160. I'm still trying to decide which way to bring the wire into my panel because the panel is in a bedroom closet recessed into the wall

All good. No pressure taken. I’m def getting a professional that has done this before. Also looking to build a cover/storage and I appreciate the tip about the eve of the house. It’s natural gas (tri fuel) I have a dedicated gas line specifically for the generator.

this is what I’m doing now and it takes a bit of time. a pigtail would just take a switch of the interlock and a start of the generator. Damn power has been too unreliable and I want something as close to a built in whole house as I can with what I have already. Minus the central A/C.

Most central air units can run on a portable generator if you utilize a soft starter to reduce the inrush current. I did a writeup on this a while ago (link below).

There's a generator group on FB (Generators: portable generators to power house) that has all the information you need to do interlock and gas hookup. Some of the prices I've seen for a 30A or 50A plug with interlock range from $600 up to $2000. I decided to do everything myself there's a bunch of videos on YT for guidance.

Question. What amperage is that breaker for your stove? Single pole 20?
