Louisiana Congressman Garret Graves undecided on which district he’ll seek reelection

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — U.S. Rep. Garret Graves released a statement Friday, May 17 about this week’s Supreme Court decision on Louisiana’s congressional map and his plans to run for reelection.
The Supreme Court ordered the state to use a congressional map with a second majority-Black district in the upcoming fall election on Wednesday, May 15.
The new map changes Graves’ district. In a statement posted on X, Graves, who represents District 6, said the Supreme Court’s decision “forces voters to a fall election using an unconstitutional, confusing map.”
Graves said he would run for reelection, adding, “Because of the absurdity of the map, we are looking through these districts to determine where we can best represent the interests and priorities of the people of Louisiana for the next two years until a reasonable map is restored.”
“The good news is that Louisiana has a congressional map for this election cycle – something we haven’t solidly had since January of this year.
“The bad news is that Wednesday’s Supreme Court ruling is only a temporary calm before the gathering storm of uncertainty for at least 2 more years, possibly more.
“The Supreme Court ruling lazily applied the Purcell Principle, ignoring Louisiana’s last-in-the-nation qualifying and last-in-the-nation November primary, which is plenty of time to conduct an election, according to sworn testimony by Secretary of State’s representatives.
“By favoring process over merit, the Court’s actions forces voters to a fall election using an unconstitutional, confusing map.
“As previously stated, we are running for re-election in a district anchored in the Capital Region. Because of the absurdity of the map, we are looking through these districts to determine where we can best represent the interests and priorities of the people of Louisiana for the next two years until a reasonable map is restored.”

He can take Landry’s spot in the governors mansion in a few years if he wants.

I hope he loses in whatever district he runs in

If he can get out of the primary.
Maybe after 8 years it might ease off, but the Landry wing of the LA Republican/conservative voter base has mostly disdain for Graves right now.

I don't like him.
But the people he might run against are most likely going to be woke, communist, or both

It is more than the Landry wing.
The Johnson / Scalise wing is pissed that he backstabbed Scalise to back Kevin McCarthy in the last speaker race. Graves and McCarthy getting exposed is part of how we got Johnson.

True. I forgot about that.
You'd have to have a shift in the way many conservatives in Louisiana view Graves. Might take every bit of 8 years.

The dems will squeeze him with Cleo and his endorsement of Wagues “the outsider” has the GOP Gov squeezing him for payback. Sort of a perfect storm for someone everyone considered unbeatable and a potential Gov candidate not long ago.

How about this weasel tries to get a job outside of government?
Or, go back to college and finish his degree.
What a loser.

He had huge support from down the bayou the day he entered his first ever race.

I have zero phucking idea which congressional district I will be in for November. Louisiana Sec of State needs to publish an interactive map ASAP.

Graves should wait to take on Cassidy, he will be a Senator if he does. I have met a lot of politicians in my life, the two most impressive were Bennett Johnson and Garrett Graves. Graves was responsible for our area receiving a lot of federal funds after the 2016 flood, at his request, he was never properly credited with his contribution.

The day he entered the race to run for congress he basically won. Support for the other GOP candidates all but vanished. One of the hardest working Senate aides ever, with results. Every business owner understood and backed him

The fact is that any candidate who had the trial lawyer backing would have won just like JBE won. Other candidates didn't suck up to them like JBE and Landry did

While controversial, he has been effective. As a resident in the affected district, I hope Graves runs against Cleo and pulls it out. Would be fun to watch the reactions.
Need to keep every GOP seat we can. In-fighting be damned.
And, if not Graves, who can beat Cleo? Anybody out there?

100% correct. I don't agree with all of his votes, Overall, I really like his voting record. He has actually gotten shiite done that the Feds would have taken decades longer to get done. Then again, I look past YEEHAW of politicians. Some are all YEEHAW and not actually what they say they stand for.
The YEEHAW folks is who are pissed that he didn't endorse Landry, who the trial lawyers now own.

I’m good with this sentiment, and feel the same way about Matt Gaetz and Sheila Jackson Lee.

I always felt uncomfortable watching a cockroach on its back struggling to stay alive.

The fact those two joined teams to endorse and force implementation of the shame Freeport McMoran “settlement” should tell one all they need to know.

I have no faith in any of those goons here in Louisiana. Nothing is ever going to change here.
