Personally, I think her impromptu acoustic version of Valerie was her best vocal performance. She had a simply astonishing voice:

But if you're going to do a documentary, do a documentary. This isn't Bohemian Rhapsody.
Hell, it isn't even Rocketman. It's a heroin junkie with a beehive and one good song.
I used to think this way before I watched the documentary "Amy". I would see the tabloid headlines, the cat eye makeup, the relationship drama, and I didn't understand the appeal.
Her personal life was an absolute disaster, but she was extremely talented as a jazz/r&b vocalist. Her dad was a POS opportunist on the level on Britney Spears.
The way that Tony Bennett respected her and enjoyed working with her spoke volumes.

I get it that Rehab was a catchy tune

is anyone else totally baffled on this alleged mystique of Amy Winehouse?
I remember the last time I watched the Grammys was when she won. In her acceptance, she sounded like a black chick from New Orleans or something, and I just kept thinking 'isn't she a Jewish chick from Britain?'
I think maybe she faked her death just to get into the 27 Club. Master poser move.

She got to join Club 27
With her demons makes me wonder since she beat out Taylor Swift for Best New Artists back in 2008. Did TS put some curse on AW.

I loved Farley, but he wasn't tortured by inner demons to the point of death
Sorry to detail the thread, but Farley absolutely has demons. He had massive imposter syndrome and always felt he had to be "on" even if he was with family and friends. Listen to any interview about him, he dealt with terrible depression even before he was a massive star.
As far as Amy Winehouse, I thought the whole deal with her was wasted potential.

Most comedians fall under this category.

Her life was tragic, but she could sing jazz, blues and soul. Tony Bennett seriously dug her jazz chops.

However, I can respect the fact that the haters here probably prefer a more autotuned Taylor Swift vibe.

Not trying to be that guy but I never heard of her until she died. I still can't name a single song but the media acted like we lost Lady Gaga.

Well she's across the pond and singing Jazz tunes. She was huge in the UK but it's fair to say she wasn't on most American's radar....even teaming up with Tony Bennett.

Those two things are entirely incompatible.

My wife and one of her lady friends went to see it yesterday. My wife was totally underwhelmed but said her friend liked it since she was a fan.
If my life depended on it, I couldn't name a single song she sang.

Wow- this is one of the dumbest takes I’ve ever read on here. Impressive.

Maybe she was trying to channel her inner Janis Joplin, but failed miserably.
I’m really tempted to spoil the ending for you though.

I adamantly disagree.
That version sounds like something I’d hear from a French Quarter street performer.
Close your eyes and imagine some junked up meth whore (other than Winehouse) singing it in front of a tip bucket. Would you even think twice about it while strolling down the street? Or would you walk over and try to become her manager?

By far the thing I liked most about Amy Winehouse's music is the Dap Kings.

see the movie didn't spin it like that at all. I knew her family must have been on the set cause they showed the drug use but implied drug use. Spun the motherhood angle quite a bit. Maybe that was the case. when she blew up she was gone. The movie was toned down alot from what I take after reading about her. and damn it was 2 hrs. UGGH
