My parents very graciously helped us send our kids to Catholic Schools, but we wouldn't have gotten the cash equivalent had we sent them to public schools. They are always willing to help if we're in a bind, but we definitely don't get an 'allowance'

I knew when our 2nd was born that private schools were out of the question.

That's a great thing your folks did.

Serious question and no hate here. Is that a thing for grandparents to put kids through private school? I thought I’d heard that before.

I’ve got several neighbors with a stay at home wife and 3 kids in private school. The Dads have good jobs but I don’t know how they are pulling it off to be honest.

Again not jealous just wondering if I’m missing something…

This is one of the best ways a grandparent can send their love.

The Grandparents helped us out when we were first married. We never asked for money but would randomly get gift checks. It was highly appreciated and put to good use for our family, and there were times when we were struggling to get by. Now we run a successful business and have been giving back to those same loved ones as well as others. That's a strong family unit. My passion is to achieve generational wealth for the family. When I am in hospice when I am old and weak, and know that I helped paved the way for a privileged life for both my kids and grandkids, I will die a happy man.

My grandfather was a blue collared worker who worked his arse off with a passion to never let his kids or grandchildren have to endure what he did. He helped his kids big time. Now we are taking it to the next level. I want my family to become old money.

My parents died broke (some assistance from their children in later years). However, my siblings and I worked hard in the family business growing up. So, we all were indoctrinated with a strong work ethic which provided a lasting benefit. One sibling bought and successfully grew the business over time.

Personally, I contribute the IRS individual gift limit to my daughter each year on her birthday. She and my son-in-law put the grandchildren through k-12 private school. I paid grandchildren college expenses through 529 long term funding. They are in college now.

The annual gifting was my way of setting up a regular amount that the family could plan on as they saw fit. Son-in-law leaves the spending of the annual gift to my daughter’s discretion. She usually spends it on family trips, needed home improvements, or kid’s cars.

I feel fortunate to be in a position to participate in their well being. They are good people of moderate ambition and strong faith. They’ve provided a healthy home environment. I got more than I bargained for all around.
