Our country was founded by people who EXPLICITLY wanted to keep religion out of government
The founding fathers explicitly wanted to keep goverment from DICTATING the nation's religion & practices, all while noting during its formation the absolute influence & neccessity of Christian beliefs on its foundation & operation. Adams, Jefferson, and others were very explicit on rights and morality coming from God and at the same time, avoiding the government telling everyone they had to believe & practice explicitly as the government commanded them. In no way, shape, or form was the intent to keep all religious displays out of the public space, which by definition should be representation of the public at large - not the least common denominator that the left would like you to believe.
If you don't get that, you either failed in class or your class failed you.

They did not want Congress to make a federal law telling them what religion they had to follow similar to the Church of England or prohibit the free exercise of religion.

Just to clarify, IGWT was added to coinage during the civil war by this board’s favorite president, Abe Lincoln.
But it was in fact in the 1950s when it was made the national motto and placed on paper currency. And Under God was added to the pledge in the 50s as well.
I agree with your over arching point, but I try to be even handed in how nit picky corrections

Most of the founders weren't Christian. It is amazing the total lack of mention of religion in government until religious nut jobs from Europe started spilling over across the Atlantic.
Like was stated, the "In God we Trust" was added to some coins as wartime propaganda. How does that make you feel, knowing that government abused religion to influence citizens? Kinda like a governor putting posters of the Ten C's in public schools.

What a waste of time but inevitable because of miserable evangelistic atheists.
This is the kind if thought process from constituents that politicians of all stripes count on. Though it accomplishes absolutely nothing tangible for the people of Louisiana, you'll remember it because you have an emotional attachment to it (actually a spiritual attachment, but only because this particular bill deals with religion), and vote accordingly in the future. Other boring bills of actual substance will be quickly forgotten.

That sculpture also has Solon and Confucius. They are supposed to represent law makers since most people know that Moses carved out those commandments to keep the Jews under control.
They could have left out Moses and gotten point across. You see the historical and social context that the 10 commandments and Moses can be used in a public setting including with the US’s own history, but you think it has to be prohibited solely because of its religious context?

Replacing that belief with one where right from wrong is based on a ghost is where morality breaks down. People either lose faith in that diety or learn to "sin" in small steps because they are taught that they are forgiven for sinning at a young age as long as they are on the right team. Heck, some sins aren't even considered sins if they somehow invoke religion.
Do you believe the declining moral standards in America are due to Christianity?

The Church of Satan eats this shite up. I'm almost positive that they are going to request that they be allowed to put a Baphomet statue at schools as a response.

I would say probably the Satanic Temple, and because they generally go like for like, so I would say they go for posting the Seven Tenets:
quote:
THERE ARE SEVEN FUNDAMENTAL TENETS
I
One should strive to act with compassion and empathy toward all creatures in accordance with reason.
II
The struggle for justice is an ongoing and necessary pursuit that should prevail over laws and institutions.
III
One’s body is inviolable, subject to one’s own will alone.
IV
The freedoms of others should be respected, including the freedom to offend. To willfully and unjustly encroach upon the freedoms of another is to forgo one's own.
V
Beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world. One should take care never to distort scientific facts to fit one's beliefs.
VI
People are fallible. If one makes a mistake, one should do one's best to rectify it and resolve any harm that might have been caused.
VII
Every tenet is a guiding principle designed to inspire nobility in action and thought. The spirit of compassion, wisdom, and justice should always prevail over the written or spoken word.

The problem is there are kids parenting kids, junkies parenting kids, criminals raising kids.
A dose of goodness, morality may kick these savages onto a path of civility or maybe even kindness.
Have you not seen how angry people are these days?

Specifically the Catholic Church who thinks it was a great idea to make men and women with functioning sex organs celibate then send them little boys as "helpers".

So in your opinion the lack of morality in America is due to people being taught they will be forgiven for thier sins if they are Christians?
