A good friend of mine worked at Dore's hunting and fishing place years ago and was well taken care of.
I worked on that property on and off with various projects for about 10 years. It's a very nice place, with plenty of recreational value. The lodge is gigantic, and has something like 18 bathrooms and multiple kitchens. In regard to the price, I don't have a clue if the oil and gas revenue makes this a decent price or outrageous though.

How did this place fare during Hurricanes Laura/Delta?

I was invited on a hunting trip back in 2009, company I worked for sent me because i was the only hunter on the sales team. 14 people including me where on that trip. I quickly figured out I was operating above my pay grade, during a friendly poker game where I was the dealer ($1000 buy in) i learned i was the only one at the lodge that didn't own a racehorse.

Is Oak Grove still around? My dad used to go out that way with clients from time to time.
Yes and Grandview right down the street from it

Huge Mary Landrieu arse kisser.

Dore was a major supporter of Rick Santorum's 2012 presidential campaign, donating $2.25 million to the Red, White and Blue Fund, Santorum's Super PAC.[6] Dore has given money to both Democrats and Republicans,[8] supporting Bobby Jindal, Charles Boustany, and Mary Landrieu.[10]
More than likely, it was for business purposes. But nobody backs Rick Santorum, if they are liberals.

I would like to know who owns it…. Their realtor should be slapped twice for such a ridiculous asking price. Final selling price will be $10 Mil or less bc only a billionaire would buy that and only a billionaire from Louisiana would want that.

I think it has a chance to go in the 20s

If you own this you are self insured like many folks that own “Camps” along the coast including Grand Isle.
Rich people don’t need property insurance. They need liability insurance and a great law firm on retainer..

Honestly most wealthy people take a bath on “toys” like this lodge. Asking $40mm and getting it are two different things entirely.
ETA- I’d imagine he’s not in a rush and never looked at this place as an investment. When you have that kind of money it’s okay if you lose a a few million or even tens of millions on something that brought you a ton of enjoyment.

Why would I spend $40 million to still be in Louisiana?
With that kind of budget, I’m buying a mountain top castle or a beach villa in Greece, Italy, or California.

He’s going to make about $35 million on the hunting camp, some company will buy it for a tax arb
You dumbasses act like you know more than a billionaire does when it comes to making money
I feel sorry for you.

On one of my fishing trips in Mexico I found myself in the same situation. Other than me the lowest paid professions were doctors and lawyers, lol. One guy owned a bunch of fitness centers, another guy sold airplanes, including one to Jerry Jones, etc, etc.
