Damn you people, this is golf! The beloved 1996 golf comedy “Happy Gilmore” is getting the sequel treatment from Netflix, with original star Adam Sandler set to return.
The streamer confirmed the film during its upfront presentation to advertisers on Wednesday afternoon in N.Y.
No real details yet.
Adam Sandler’s ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Officially Confirmed at Netflix
Also, this AV Club article mentions that a Dodgeball sequel recently got greenlit (which I must have missed): Happy Gilmore is coming back in a Netflix sequel

They should have done this a long time ago. Not so much now. I’ll never understand waiting almost 30 years for a sequel.

I think it could work if he's like a John Daly type of golfer in his old age

John Daly needs to be his coach since basically 80% of the cast is dead.

It’s like Dumb and Dumber 2.
It’s a dumb concept and Adam Sandler is simply money laundering.

and just like Dumb and Dumber, it would have printed money if made in the late 90s. now, it might will be lucky to make half its budget back

it's a NETFLIX movie. it isn't gonna make any money back. they just like having original movies constantly coming out on their platform.

The amount of money Netflix has bestowed upon Sandler for virtually zero return is just fascinating.
Name 2 Sandler Netflix films that anyone has ever watched a second time?
Now name 10 Sandler theatrical releases that you have watched more than once...
It has to be one of the greatest movie heists in history.

Including the best one.
Bob Barker.

I can't imagine Drew Carey in that role

It has to have shooter claw his way back into contention.

Probably won’t be good, but no one will be able to stop me from watching it.
Shooter should win the gold jacket this time.

They need to have Happy’s career mirror Tiger’s, but in a funnier way. Wife runs him over with a Zamboni or something.
Then in the movie while he’s trying to be the elder statesman of golf, Shooter shows up and creates the main plot line.
Having Happy get beat up by Drew Carey would be a funny wink to Barker and the first film.

The sequel as written by ChatGPT. It could use a little work, but I like it.

Title: Happy Gilmore: The Legend Continues
Genre: Comedy/Sports
Logline:
Happy Gilmore returns to the golf course, this time facing a new set of challenges as he navigates the high-stakes world of professional golf in 2024, all while balancing family life and the antics of old rivals.
Synopsis:
In "Happy Gilmore: The Legend Continues," we catch up with Happy Gilmore, now in his mid-40s, living a quiet life with his family in suburban Connecticut. Despite his past as a golf sensation, Happy has hung up his clubs and is content coaching his daughter, Lily, in her junior golf tournaments. However, when Happy's old nemesis, Shooter McGavin, returns to the spotlight with a flashy golf reality show, he lures Happy back into the game with promises of a charity tournament for a good cause.
Reluctantly, Happy agrees, but soon finds himself sucked back into the competitive world of professional golf. Alongside his loyal caddy, Otto, and with the support of his family, Happy sets out to reclaim his former glory. However, he quickly discovers that the game has changed since his prime days. The golf scene is now dominated by young, tech-savvy players, led by the arrogant prodigy, Chad "The Chipper" Chippington.
As Happy navigates the challenges of modern golf, including high-tech equipment and social media pressures, Shooter McGavin seizes the opportunity to sabotage Happy's comeback. Bitter over his own fall from grace, Shooter plots to tarnish Happy's reputation and reclaim his former status as the top golfer.
Using his influence in the golfing world, Shooter hires a team of hackers to disrupt Happy's game and spread rumors about his personal life. However, as the tournament progresses, Shooter begins to realize that his vendetta against Happy is misguided. Reflecting on his own mistakes and the importance of second chances, Shooter ultimately decides to switch sides and help Happy defeat their common enemy, Chad "The Chipper."
In the climactic charity tournament, Happy and Shooter put aside their differences to team up against Chad and his team. With Lily's newfound respect for her father's unorthodox methods, Happy discovers that family and friendship are the true keys to success. In a nail-biting finish, Happy and Shooter pull off a miraculous victory, proving once again that sometimes, it's not about the score but the love of the game.
As the credits roll, we see Happy, Shooter, and their families celebrating their triumph, with Shooter earning newfound respect from his old rival. The film ends with Happy and Shooter teeing off into the sunset, ready to face whatever challenges the future holds, both on and off the golf course.
"Happy Gilmore: The Legend Continues" is a hilarious and heartwarming sequel that captures the spirit of the original while offering a fresh take on the beloved characters and their adventures in the world of golf.

I’ll be back to check in this once the movie comes out. Hopefully Julie Bowen is in it either way.

Unfortunately, I think the chances are high that this is one of the worst movies ever made.
