We are riding on a cultural/societal 'Titanic'. Given the dynamics, there is no way to avoid a collision. Who and how many survives, and what quality of life they have, is the only question to be answered.

And this doesn't take into account the 'Religion' factor. We either exist in a Spiritual Universe (Energy being Self Aware, I.e, God) or we don't. Either way, after the fact, both possibilities - either Heaven/eternal life, or 'Hell'/absolute separation from God/death/non-existence - end up being painless. It's the 'transition' that might hurt. Albeit, pain may develop extraordinarily positive character in ways that ease cannot. Silver lining as it were.

I accept you view. But that doesn't absolve men from protecting their families, here and now.

I'll say it again... if there is a widespread birdflu pandemic then we will have all the evidence we need and action would be the only just, rational response.
