It seems I know a lot more women getting cancer these days - and it's an alarming increase

Someone I know on FB just passed away from breast cancer and another has mentioned they've recently been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Meanwhile another FB acquaintance has just recently mentioned her sister's cancer returning.
Having said that, I think I know at least 6 or 7 women in their mid-40's who have died in the last 2 years or so. It's alarming to me this increase. I know that obviously as we age, we're going to know more people who die. But does it seem to anyone else that this number has wildly been increasing at a noticeable rate?

seems like social media is your common denominator of why you think there's an uptick in cases. people are just more aware these days of everyone's problems.

Tbh women put more chemicals inside them than men. Birth control being something I feel is understudied, but also depression pills etc

You know, that's probably the most logical answer. We're more honed in on people's problems both in and out of each others social circles. But even considering that, it still seems fricked up and more than I'd ever have expected.

That, and you and your peers are getting older. These cancers start really showing up in women in their 40s. There is a distinct increase as women age (most instances of cancer (but not all) increase with age).
It only gets worse from here on out. You will know more and more people with health issues, including cancer, as you get older. It's the circle of life.
Breast cancer by age:
Age 30 . . . . . . 0.49% (or 1 in 204)
Age 40 . . . . . . 1.55% (or 1 in 65)
Age 50 . . . . . . 2.40% (or 1 in 42)
Age 60 . . . . . . 3.54% (or 1 in 28)
Age 70 . . . . . . 4.09% (or 1 in 24)
Ovarian Cancer
30-34 years 16.0
35-39 years 18.2
40-44 years 28.8
45-49 years 42.0
50-54 years 55.4
55-59 years 69.4
60-64 years 70.6
65-69 years 64.4

Indeed. Just seems a little grimmer than I seem to remember. It's a huge bummer. We're definitely at an age where you a lot more of "so-and-so just lost their mom/dad/etc...". It wasn't long at all that it was grandparents.
I just hate it for these people and thank God everyday for good health for my own family.
Every day is indeed a blessing.

There is a definite link between breast cancer and alcohol. This was shown when the women from upscale Marin County California developed abnormally high rates of breast cancer. The common denominator-high consumption of wine from nearby Napa and Sonoma counties.

Add my wife to the list. Lost her battle w breast cancer at 45 last year. Horrible, horrible disease and a terrible way to go. Makes me sick to even hear about others with it.

I got a call today from a client who lost his wife to cancer recently. Depressing.

Your skin is the largest and heaviest organ on/in your body. More and more, research is finding that anything applied to your skin is absorbed into your body and is metabolized much the same, if not more so as ingesting it.

It does seem like the number of young people getting cancer is going up and there are numbers to support that. With that being said social media really amplifies how much you see about it. I’ll see a Facebook post from someone I haven’t talked to since college and they have a go fund me for a person in their town. 20 years ago I’d never have seen that or other posts like that. It’s actually one of the reasons I stay off social media more now, it was giving me anxiety.

Yep. Seems a lot of people feel free to discuss just about an situation in their lives over social media whereas years ago most kept it to themselves and just those close around them.
Right now I know of 3 women who are diagnosed with cancer----one in her 40's, another in her 60's and my sister-in-law now in her early 70's.

Tattoos?
There is good reason to believe that tattoo ink can have an adverse effect on internal organs over time.
Oh, and that other thing that was foretold by subject matter experts that would lead to an increase in cancer.
